Feature Article - A Fresh Sheet
Don't you love a fresh sheet of paper? Or fresh computer screen? It's like a blank slate - for you to create anything you would like. Let's look at how 2012 can be a blank slate for you - so past disappointments, or even failures, don't get in the way of what you would like to do this year. Here are some ideas:
1. Focus on High-Value. Our clients and customers want high-value from us. We know the impact that high quality products and superior service can have on our businesses and workplaces. We can focus on high-value when we are managing our time. If we feel that we didn't accomplish enough high value goals last year - that's ok - it's a new slate. Bring them on from last year - but ask yourself these questions: Are last year's high value goals relevant today? Did market conditions change the need for these goals? Spend some time "out of box" brainstorming with your team - on other high value activities. Think from the customer's perspective and tie these goals to your organization's higher mission and vision.
2. Learn from the Past. A bad experience can be wasted if we don't learn from it. What are some things that you learned from last year that you can do differently in 2012? I learned that I need the accountability of other business owners with strict fines and structure - for me to do move forward in my business. What about you? What do you need? Perhaps you can avoid the trap of disorganization by spending a few moments every Friday afternoon cleaning your office and workspace so that you can start each week feeling productive and organized.
3. Engage your Staff. As you embark on this "new page" philosophy, clearing the path (be it mental or physical) so that you can accomplish your goals, don't forget to involve and engage your staff. In fact, carving some time with your staff on "lessons learned" and "high value goals" can be a great exercise in getting all the ideas out on the table and working as a team. This collaborative effort can have far-reaching positive consequences now and throughout the year. One question you can ask your staff is, "Where would you like the team/department to be at this time next year in terms of goals, accomplishments, credibility in the organization, service performance, or team results?"

Boundless Boosters for your Business
What do kangaroos and successful people have in common? Neither can go backwards. Sure we all have our moments, hours, even days when things seem to be going backwards - whether it is a rejection from one of our best customers, a communication misunderstanding that is causing havoc in our relationship, or a bad business decision. But we always have the choice to move forward.
Here is one "boundless booster" to help you start well in 2012:
Create a theme - In my last ezine, I mentioned about creating goals in different areas of your life. What is also helpful for some people is to focus on "themes" as they reflect on their goals - what overriding theme do you want 2012 to be about and how does this theme impact your goals in different areas of your life? My theme of boundless results - creating great leaps at work and in life continues to propel me as I strive to move forward - professionally and personally. What theme inspires you?
