Boundless greetings to you during this beautiful Christmas Season!   This edition will focus on creative ways to motivate yourself, as well as your ministry staff, as you wind down 2010 and look forward to 2011.  What have you learned about the Lord this past year?  What have you learned about yourself?  How have you seen growth in your staff?  What avenues do you sense the Lord leading you in your ministry and team?   Or perhaps you are discouraged as your ministry has been hard hit with staff reductions and budget deficits.  Whatever the state of your circumstances, one thing is certain - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever, and may we continue to lean into His presence and truth as we move forward in the New Year.  And yes, that is me with a real live kangaroo in Arlington, Washington. My husband and I took a day trip to this kangaroo farm - the Outback Christmas Tree & Kangaroo Farm located in Arlington, WA - and I highly recommend it!  You are up close and personal with wallabies, kangaroos and other exotic animals.

Getting Motivated for a New Career podcast

Recently, I was privileged to be interviewed with Crown Financial Ministries on MoneyLife where I talked about Getting Motivated for a New Career.  As many of you know, I was "downsized" out of four great jobs with prestigious firms before striking out on my own.  I pray that my testimony and career journey will encourage any of you who are  considering a career change or launching a business.   Click here to listen to my interview - http://crown.org/media/relatedcontent/111210.aspx

Reflecting on this past year

As you are scheduling Christmas parties, church events, and the myriad of Christmas activities, make sure to plan out a date or a weekend in January 2011 to get away and have some time away with the Lord.  The New Year affords a perfect opportunity to assess and reflect upon the previous year and plan for the future.  Here are some tips as you plan your time for yourself as well as for your ministry team:

Here are some ways we can clear the way to making things work:

·    For your personal retreat, I recommend bringing a Bible, a notebook, one or two books, and many pens (plus some worship music if that is what helps you get connected with the Lord).  The best kind of retreat location is away from your office and your home. Revisit the goals, ministry and personal, and dreams that you wrote down at the beginning of the year. How did you do? What about your relationships?

·    For your ministry team, I recommend at least a half day if not a whole day set aside with your entire team.  Think about your "end in mind" as you plan your agenda- and if there are reflective questions you want each team member to think about, send these to your team prior to the retreat. Consider hiring an outside facilitator so you can fully participate.  What types of ministry goals did you and your team set out to accomplish?  How did your team do in terms of team goals? What kinds of challenges did your team encounter that could be opportunities for brainstorming solutions?

And even though this may have been a tough year - we don't need to worry!

 Boundless Boosters for your Ministry

What do kangaroos and successful people have in common?  Neither can go backwards.  Sure we all have our moments, hours, even days when things seem to be going backwards - whether it is a rejection from one of our best customers, a communication misunderstanding that is causing havoc in our relationship, or a bad ministry decision.  But we always have the choice to move forward.

Here are three "boundless boosters" designed to leap you forward in your life and in this new year:

Jan Business PhotoBe Focused -
If your ministry is like my business, there are a plethora of activities that you can be working on in your business day.  As you reflect upon your accomplishments for 2010, ask yourself:  what could you do differently in the New Year so that you see more positive results? I bet you could benefit from the power of focus. As you think about goals, then map out the activities that you (and your ministry team) need to engage in to accomplish those goals.  Focus will help you stay on track on both your personal and ministry goals.

Jan Business PhotoClaim God's promises -
There are so many promises in the Bible that we can claim - what specific promises do you need to claim for yourself and your team this coming year? Are you worried about making decisions?  Claim the promise in James 1:5 that promises that God will give generously wisdom to all those who ask.  Are you wondering if God will provide?  Claim Philippians 4:19 with the promise and my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.  Are you fearful?  Claim 2nd Timothy 1:9," For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.

Jan Business PhotoLeap forward to the future -
Paul writes in Philippians 3:13, to "Forget what is behind and straining toward what is ahead."  What a great truth as we end 2010 and look forward to 2011!  Forgetting doesn't necessarily mean that we don't thank God for His faithfulness or learn from the mistakes of the past year. But it does mean that our focus is not on the past, but rather, on the future.  We can look forward to this New Year - a new "slate" - filled with endless possibilities and opportunities.  This New Year filled with new ways for God to show us His unending love and faithfulness.  This new year where we will learn more about God and come to know Him in a deeper way.
