Our Spiritual Models

AAWTHave you ever prayed to find another woman who could be a spiritual model and mentor on your life's journey? Or, have you been privileged to relate to such a woman? If so, the current Jan.-Feb. 2008 issue of timbrel will help you reflect on the blessings these women bring to our lives.

In preparation for the theme of the March-April issue, "fostering healthy sexuality" consider this Sister Question:

* What has helped you foster healthy sexuality?

* How has your relationship to God shaped your views?

Prayer request from Rebecca Osiro, Kenya

January 11, 2008 AAWT
"Thank you for your concern for me during this moment of uncertainty because of the violence that has rocked almost all parts of the country. I am fine with my family though displaced from our former residence. It is all a political and class issue, but ethnically motivated and not just a war between two major tribes as most observers may want to say. Please remember us in prayers that the situation [in Kenya] may not worsen."

- Rebecca is secretary for the African Anabaptist Women Theologians committee.  She is pictured (second from left) in a prayer circle at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart, Indiana in 2006.

Prayer for the Journey

By Emma Hartman, Goshen, Indiana

Creator God,

at the start of

this New Year-

when thoughts turn

to new beginnings,

to hopes and dreams

even in the midst

of the ravages of war,

of natural disasters,

of conflict and strife,

take our fear.

Take our anxiety

about tomorrow.

Take our lack of trust

in you.

May we find

joy and delight

in each day,

enabled by

the light of your love

that accepts us

as we are,

to live lives that

reflect your grace,

forgiveness and

hospitality.

Knowing Christ's Love - Answering God's Call.
