by Marshall Foran, Peak Achievement Coaching"Ten years ago I turned my face for a moment and it became my life." I read this somber quote recently in a magazine; a haunting sentiment to ponder as we near the New Year. This is the plight of untold millions - drones who show up to their job in the morning and slowly cascade a staircase of responsibilities until their head finds a bed pillow in the evening. High achievers consciously stay off this hamster wheel.
Anyone of us who work with Gary is looking for more out of their lives and businesses. We're looking to take-off. Improvement is great, but reaching the point of separation from where we are to the realization of a new venture, x-fold increase in revenue, or way of living requires a release from our current circumstances and mindset. This is when full potential is realized.
Launching your business to place you desire requires a great deal of internal resources. The space shuttle uses 80% of its fuel the first five minutes after launch. The laws of departure are universal. What's your level of commitment? What is your mindset?
Though I mentor and speak to high school and collegiate student athletes, the principles of success within a very challenging environment are the same. Foremost, you have to go all in. It's an uncommon commitment that doesn't allow you to back out. It's a powerful focus that drives you to trade, or sacrifice, parts of you that are not congruent with your goals. It's continuous action in the face of fear. This is the stuff of transformation.
This is scary for people to do because the self-preservation mechanism is always active. What if I'm not good enough...what if I get rejected? Excellence does not require physical or intellectual gifts. Our minds and skills are malleable. Success is about growth - and a lot of that happens after failure. Holding back will only prolong your growth curve and clip your ability to achieve.
Truth be told, your weaknesses will be exposed when you go all in. Again, this is not comfortable but essential. From basketball star Michael Jordan to elite special forces soldiers, it is documented that their relentless work to address their weaknesses and master them is tantamount to their unusual achievements and capabilities.
In 2011, are you going to be the egg or the bacon in the morning breakfast? Both the chicken and the pig made a commitment to the meal, albeit clearly different. Give everything you have to your goals, be courageous, do the work and you will enjoy a year of incredible transformation.
If you or a friend has a teen student athlete looking to reach the next level, but isn't sure how to get there, my purpose is to stand in that gap. I've been there and succeeded against some daunting odds. I often where my Citrus Bowl championship ring to remind me of the personal triumph I experienced. My book,
All In, is available at

teen athlete and parent mentoring programs.
Best Wishes,
Marshall
