When networking, pay attention to the person's goals. For example, lets say they want to get a new Lexus convertible. Within a couple of days, go to the dealer and pick up a brochure. Attach a note saying "I'm excited about your new Lexus convertible and thought you would enjoy a picture. I'd love to see it when you get it ~ Gary" and mail it to them. They will not forget you!

Secrets to Achieving Your Goals
by Gary Barnes, MaxLife International
The number one question I'm asked is "How can I achieve my goals?" As I've thought about this question I've come up with three things that are critical to winning.
First, find your "Why". It's important that your why be clear and powerful to you. There is always pain connected to achieving your goals. Normally, we're only able to go through the discomfort if the benefit or pleasure in the end is big enough.

Happy New Decade? Get Real!
Second Decade of the Twenty First Century. Sure, it's an arbitrary measure, but food for thought. What did you do in the first Decade? How have you changed? What personal challenges did you overcome?
And where do you want to go from here?
Mike Vance, former Dean of Disney University used a term, "Tabula Rasa", meaning "Clean Slate". It's the idea that every moment is a clean slate - we can start anything with a completely refreshed feeling, no strings attached. We are free to wipe the white board clean and start a whole new road map.
I recently got to spend some time with George Foreman, twice heavyweight champion of the world, ordained minister and successful business man, most notable for his association with the "George Foreman Grill".
He told about why he climbed back into the ring after already having achieved his first championship. Very few people realize this, but he had reached a point in his financial life where, although he really didn't want to, he had to go back in order to feed his family. And he had to start from scratch - everybody said he was too old!
All his former accomplishments meant nothing. He started with a "clean slate", taking on very low paying fights at first and gradually, persistently working his way back up to the top.
Was 2009 was a challenging year for you? If so, what did you learn that will propel you forward?
Here are three elements I noticed in George's story and ultimate victory that you can put to work for starting right now: - Persistence - George said when every counter move he'd planned to use against Muhammed Ali failed, he just put his head down and fought, just kept on going. What desired outcome could you achieve with a little more persistence?
- Attitude - When the chips were down, George didn't complain about having to fight in the smallest venues, he was grateful to have the opportunity. How do you think that helped him move up through the ranks? An "Attitude of Gratitude" as Zig Ziglar says will open doors for you. What could you be grateful for that you haven't thought about for a while? Your spouse? Kids? Business? Health? I'm thankful every day for just the gift of breath, of life - amazing when you think about it!
- Discipline - Well, I just lost about half my readers with that one... But notice, when George was called on to feed his family, he followed his larger self. Of course we'd all do that. So take that to the next level - what might happen in your life if in just one area you quit listening to your small self and followed your larger self? Do something extraordinary for somebody, without thought of return, without them even knowing about it.
But you don't have to believe me about any of these suggestions. Just "clean the slate", try them out and see what happens!
From his home base in Boulder, Colorado, Mike helps successful, entrepreneurial women and men to gain a crystal clear vision and make their desired outcomes a reality. You can learn more at www.MikeConnollyCoaching.com.

Become a 'Yes Man (or Woman)'
Last week, I watched Jim Carrey's movie called Yes Man. What a great story. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Not just for the fun factor but for the underlying message of the importance of saying YES to new opportunities. The story is about a Los Angeles bank employee (Carl Allen) who has become withdrawn and depressed since his divorce. Routinely ignoring his friends, he spends his spare time watching DVDs alone in his apartment. His outlook on life has become inherently negative. But when a friend persuades him to attend the "YES!" self-improvement seminar, he reluctantly promises to stop being a 'No Man' and vows to answer 'Yes!' to every opportunity, request or invitation that presents itself to him. After this experience, Carl adopts a positive mentality and seizes every opportunity that comes his way and amazing things start happening for him in all areas of his life.
This movie's message came at a really good time for me. Throughout 2009, I had been working on opening myself up to new possibilities, both professionally and personally. Even though last year was a year of turmoil for most people (and believe me, I had my trepidations about being a self-employed, single mom in this economy), I said YES to this challenge and I'm so glad I did. It was a good first year as a solopreneur and I'm looking forward to an even better year in 2010. The other area of my life that I held tight control over was my love life. Having been divorced 10 years and surviving a couple of painful relationships during that time, I was pretty guarded about letting love in again. Then a couple of months ago, a friend introduced me to someone who has captured my heart and shown me how much fun it is to love freely and to be present in the moment. In fact, it was with this person that I watched this movie and it really resonated with both of us how important it is to say YES to opportunities, requests and invitations.
Now it's not realistic to say 'yes' to every opportunity that comes along but it is important to not let fear get in our way of something that could be very good for us. So let's look at what FEAR is. I've often heard that the word FEAR stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. What that means to me is that fear has the ability to make something seem real when really it isn't. Fear is a feeling that happens as a result of something that triggers it. Uncover what that trigger is and you'll, more than likely, begin to lose the feeling of fear. This is not an easy 2-step process though. Sometimes, it means that we have to wrestle some demons to the ground, shine the light on them and expose them so we can see them for what they really are. And sometimes, it means that we have to give up a belief that we've been holding onto very tightly. But the really good news is that, when we take on this challenge, we discover that we have a lot more courage and strength than we thought we had. It liberates us and empowers us which, in turn, gives us the feeling that we can accomplish mighty things. How COOL is that?
So what does all this have to do with Virtual Assistance? Well, if you've wanted to work with a VA but you discover that you have fears that are holding you back, let's look at what those fears might be ... a loss of control, it's too expensive, work not up to your standards? I'd like to help you overcome those fears. I offer a free ecourse called 101 Ways to Boost Business with a Virtual Assistant that will educate you on the projects I can assist you with.
So, if you ready to experience amazing things in 2010, learn to say YES!
