Greetings!
Summer is actually here. It's a time for family gatherings, picnics and other outdoor activities. The one thing that connects most of these events is that they all have to do with building and strengthening relationships. My feature article this month is about how to create those relationships in your business quickly and effectively. I'm also introducing you to a new resource that helps to change old beliefs that may be holding you back. It's called Mind Movies. I think you'll enjoy checking it out.
To your success, Gary Barnes

Networking & The Art of Connecting
by Gary Barnes, MaxLife International
Networking for many people means asking, "What can you do for me?" This attitude, process and language often pushes people away instead of connecting them to you. I would like to introduce you to a networking process I call Triage. In this process you look for an area of pain or discomfort in the person's life that you can help with. There are 3 steps in the Triage Process. STEP 1: The first step is what I call Scratching the Record which is getting people's attention. When I'm at a networking event and a person starts a conversation with me, they normally ask me about my business. The reality is that they are being polite, but may not really listen to what I would have to say at this point. So, I make a very short statement that stimulates a question from them like "I make money sticky." Their normal response is something like "How do you do that?" or "What is it?" When someone asks a question like this, now you have their attention. You will be tempted to tell them more, but don't. STEP 2: The second step of the Triage process is Actively Listening. When the person has asked you a question you can say "I would love to, but first tell me a little about your business." The key here is to listen intently to what the person is telling you so that you can identify if they have any needs. This is key information so that you will know whether you or someone in your network has a solution for this person. This is also the step that will tell you what part of you to share with them. STEP 3: The third step of the Triage process is Asking Permission to Connect. This is not just asking for their business card. Depending on what you uncovered in the second step, you may ask for an appointment, either on the phone or in person, to talk about their needs and possible solutions. You may have also identified that someone in your network could benefit this person. Get permission to give their information to your contact. The most important thing to remember in this step is to follow through to continue your conversation, connect them to others, or thank them and let them know it was great meeting them. If you will follow these three simple steps, you will break through the surface generalities of small talk and form meaningful connections that will last a lifetime.

Your New Favorite Thing
by Nordine Zouareg, Triple Impact, LLC
We all have a list of our favorite things. It may not be written down anywhere, but you know the things that make you happy.
The list holds your favorite foods, music, TV shows, movies and even people in your life that you can't get enough of. This is the stuff that you really enjoy. It's the stuff that makes your life worth living.
Somewhere on the list is your health and appearance. You know that looking and feeling great make a good life even better.
The interesting thing about your list is that without fail you'll always make time for it.
- When your TV show airs, you watch it or record it to watch later.
- When your favorite actor stars in a new movie, you do your part by going to the theatre.
- When you're hungry, you turn to your favorite foods.
- When the weekend rolls around, you do everything you can to spend time with the special people in your life.
- Yet when it comes to exercise you automatically say, "I don't have time."
Time for TV, but no time for exercise... We live in an age where life is full. You don't have extra time anymore.
You no longer have time. You make time. - You make time for your TV show.
- You make time for your hobby.
- You make time for your friends.
It's time to drop the charade of "I don't have time to exercise" and call it what it really is.
An excuse.
You know how to make time for your favorite things. You know you want good health. You know you want to look great. You know you want more energy.
Exercise delivers all those benefits - and more.
I believe that exercise belongs on your list of favorite things.
Make It A Favorite: How do you turn something that you've dreaded into something that you enjoy?
- Block the Negative: Your thoughts play a big part in determining your favorite things. Block out any negative thoughts you may have about exercise. Focus your energy on creating a positive attitude that will get you excited about hitting the gym, rather than dreading it.
- Focus on the Benefits: With exercise you have so much to gain and nothing to lose. Exercise makes you stronger, sexier, happier, and gives you more energy. Pick the benefit that moves you the most and fixate on it.
- Get Guidance: The easiest way to put exercise on your list of favorite things is to experience it at its best. Get onboard with one of my personal training programs and I'll show you the most effective and enjoyable techniques that will get you into the best shape of your life.

All Aflutter About Twitter?
By Karen Schatz. Virtually With You
There's so much talk about social media marketing these days that I'm guessing you've experienced (or at least heard about) Twitter by now.
My question for you is not "Have you tried it?" but rather "Do you grasp it yet?"
I am in the midst of learning the 'Big Three' social media venues right now (LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook) so that I can offer assistance to my clients in this area that has many people all aflutter (and this word, by the way, is used in both the positive and negative sense). It's not the concept of how to use these venues for community building and marketing strategies that have all of us bewildered but rather it's getting started at the basics - the implementation of the application, understanding the framework and learning Twitter's features - that we all want training on first.
Along with the great training resources I have from my Social Media Marketing Specialist Training by Craig Cannings, I have come across other resources that have been helpful in filling in the gaps. One such resource is an ebook, written by Charlene Kingston of Crow Info Design, titled Twitter For Beginners. This ebook was just what I needed to unravel the mysteries of:
- defining basic Twitter terms
- effectively setting up your Twitter account profile
- defining your Twitter business goals and Twitter community
- deciphering message components and their importance
- crafting effective messages using message types
- planning activities that build your Twitter success
If you'd like your very own copy of this free ebook so that you can get started on setting up your Twitter account, click here.
Of course, if you feel that you're overwhelmed at the thought of taking on this project by yourself, then contact me and I'll be happy to set up your account for you and train you on how to "tweet" to your "peeps".
