Bubba's Networking Corner

As you network, look for ways to connect that is out of the ordinary.

An example would be if someone said they had just had a flat tire. You could go and buy a bicycle repair kit and mail it to them. It would give them a smile and I guarantee you that they will remember you the next time they see You.

Happy Networking!

Creating Your New Reality

Your reality is whatever your perceptions are.  Is the reality you are now living the one you want? If not, how do you change it? Here's a three-step process that you can use to change your perception so your reality can be the one you want:

First, we have to understand what perception is. Perception is a belief. Unfortunately, it is often a limiting belief. A sample of a limiting belief is "I don't deserve ______". If this was a belief that you held, and you wanted to change it, you would have to deliberately design a new belief like "I  deserve _______". This may sound like a very simple process. In reality it is simple, but at times very difficult to do.

Do you know what your perceptions or beliefs are? If not, to start the process of understanding what your beliefs are, you can ask a question like "What are my beliefs about money"? Then you write down the next thoughts that come into your mind. You can continue your discovery process by using the same question and just replacing the next topic for the word money. If it's not a belief that you want to keep, you now know how to change it. To help build and reinforce these new beliefs, I recommend writing them every day.

Second, we have to change our actions or response to the belief. Let's say for example that you have believed "I deserved to be fat". One of the actions which support that belief is to eat a high calorie snack just before going to bed. If you change your belief to "I deserved to be healthy and my weight is proportionate to my height", then an action to support your new belief could be to eat a light healthy snack before going to bed.

Third, is to recognize the result. There is an old saying "the proof is in the pudding". Results don't lie. It's important to see what reality our old beliefs gave us. Is it a reality of an unhealthy body or lack of money or a bad personal relationship. Likewise if we see a result of a healthy body, a steady supply of money, and a loving supportive personal relationship, we know that our belief is supporting the result that we want.

Here's the formula: Belief + Action = Result. The simple truth is this: If you want a different result, all you have to do is change your belief and your action. The key is to do it deliberately, taking full responsibility for the result. The empowerment that you will experience will catapult you to whatever level of achievement you desire. The Sky Is The Limit. Enjoy!

The Top 5 Side Effects of Exercise
NordineZ 98x100

Your doctor feels like a broken record.

That's right - he's sick and tired of telling you how important exercise is to your health because YOU DON'T LISTEN.

He's sick of explaining how so many of your health problems will improve or even disappear as the result of a consistent exercise program.

He's tired of tallying your controllable risk factors which include physical inactivity and obesity.

So why does he continue to give you the same lecture?

Because he's seen exercise change lives.

He's even seen exercise save lives.

A Doctor's Perspective

Dr. David Shilling MD has been a family doctor for over 30 years. In that time he's given a fair number of patients the exercise lecture...with good cause.
He's seen firsthand the healing power of exercise.

Exactly what kind of healing? Dr. Shilling shared the top 5 benefits that he's seen patients experience as a result of exercise...

1. Feel Great: The first thing that patients tell Dr. Shilling after starting an exercise program is how much better they feel. "People don't realize how bad they feel. They get used to feeling bad. Then when they start exercising they feel so much better."

Your energy levels boost and you feel great.

2. Pain Be Gone: Next patients notice a reduction in aches and pains. Chronic muscle and joint pain that they've lived with for years begins to fade. For some, joint replacement surgery is postponed. For others, arthritis pain is reduced.

Your muscles and joints feel better than ever.

3. Goodbye Coronary Heart Disease: While patients can't feel this healing benefit of exercise, it is the one that saves lives. Exercise removes two of the major risk factors that lead to heart disease: 1) physical inactivity and 2) obesity. Exercise also increases your good cholesterol (HDL) and lowers your blood pressure.

Your risk of heart attack or stroke is reduced.

4. Goodbye Type 2 Diabetes: Patients with type 2 diabetes gain substantial benefits from exercise. Exercise improves the body's use of insulin, and the related weight loss improves insulin sensitivity. Of course patients with type 2 diabetes need to get guidelines from their doctor before starting an exercise program.

Your blood sugar levels are better controlled.

5. Goodbye Sleep Apnea: Patients with sleep apnea are often caught in a destructive cycle. Their weight promotes occurrences of apnea then inadequate sleep promotes weight gain. Dr. Shilling has seen exercise break this cycle.

Your sleep becomes restful and weight loss becomes easier.

With all of these benefits it's hard to see why anyone would avoid exercise. What's your excuse?
  • I know you're tired...exercise gives you energy.
  • I know you're in pain...exercise alleviates your muscle and joint pain.
  • I know you'd rather stay in bed...exercise makes your sleep more restful.
  • I know you're pressed for time...exercise improves your efficiency and extends your life.
  • I know you don't know where to start...that's where I come in.
Call me at (520) 744-5108 or contact me via email and we'll schedule a consultation where I can show you the fastest and safest way to reap all of the benefits of exercise.

Then the next time you see your doctor he won't give you a lecture. He'll congratulate you.
Marketing Your Business in Five Earth-Friendly Ways

April is one of my favorite months.  It's the time of year the earth begins awakening after the long, cold, sleepy days of winter.  Our mood is lifted just by the warmer weather, the sunnier days and the flowers blooming.

There's a special day in April that many of us acknowledge and appreciate and it's called 'Earth Day' - a day celebrated in the United States on April 22 as a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the earth's environment.
April may be the month that we celebrate Earth Day but, in truth, many of us have become environmentally-conscious all year long.

I, for one, do my part to take care of the environment by doing what many people do today like recycling plastics, glass, aluminum and paper.

I also have replaced all the light bulbs in my house with GE Energy Smart light bulbs that will last 5 years and save 70-77% less energy than incandescent bulbs.

And recently my neighbor converted me into using Amsoil's 100% synthetic lubricating oil that is considered the "green" oil of the automobile industry.  Not only does it provide better performance for my car but it contains 0% petroleum, it lowers emissions, improves gas mileage and results in less oil waste.

As I thought about these ways I contribute to preserving the earth in my personal life, it occurred to me that I also contribute in my business life as well by working at home and providing virtual services to my clients.

I save on gas by not commuting down the road twice a day and I communicate with my clients and business associates via email, thereby cutting down on paper usage.  (Remember the day when we used to mail everything using the postal mail service? Boy, that seems so long ago!)

I read a great blog post earlier this week that enlightened me on how I help my clients daily to participate in preserving the earth (whether they realize it or not) and it's all done through their online marketing efforts.

The five points below were borrowed from this blog post (with the author's permission) and updated with my favorite online tools:

1.  Email Marketing - Delivering your newsletter via email instead of a printed version saves big.  The paper, ink, postage and fossil fuels consumed by the energy it takes to power a computer are far less than those used to power the printing process.  And even if you need a limited number of hard copies to hand out in a brick and mortar location, you can easily print off a few dozen at a time and replenish as needed.

For email marketing, I recommend Constant Contact, AWeber and 1ShoppingCart

2.  Teleclasses - Workshops held over the phone.  Now and then it is important and sometimes necessary for people to gather in a face-to-face environment.  But if part of what you do involves education or instruction, you can often accomplish the same thing with a teleseminar (or webinar if the material you are presenting requires visual aids).  These are great ways to address a group and everyone's car stays in the driveway; plus, no one is heating, cooling or lighting an additional space.

For teleseminars, I use FreeConference as a free conference calling service. And for an affordable fee, you can also record the call and share your desktop so participants can view presentations.

3.  Social Networking - Humans are social creatures.  Social networking tools make it easier for us to engage with each other between the times when we get together face-to-face.  The impact is nearly immeasurable in terms of saved gasoline and jet fuel consumption.

I like to use the 'big three' (LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter) to keep in touch and build relationships with business colleagues and personal friends.

4.  Blogging - A quick and easy way to keep a stream of deeper communication going with your people.  Excellent for building trust and establishing your credibility as an expert.  It's like a cross between direct mail and public speaking without the podium, printing, postage and fuel.

I recommend using Typepad and Wordpress for blogging.

5.  E-commerce - Once you've used all the other stuff to attract a ton of attention to yourself, you'll need a way to process the sales that are sure to come from all this excellent relationship-building.  The environmental benefits of a website with a shopping cart compared to the overhead associated with a brick and mortar establishment are immense!

I use and highly recommend 1ShoppingCart for ecommerce and auto responders.

If you'd like to jump on the bandwagon with me for being an earth-friendly advocate and you haven't begun to implement these online tools yet to help boost your business, then contact me and we can design a plan unique to you that will help your business profit from these marketing strategies and, as a bonus, you'll feel warm and fuzzy knowing that you too are doing your part in preserving our Mother Earth.

Getting the Profit Out of Social Media for Small Businesses: Part 1 - Laying the Foundation
Patrice Barber
By Patrice Barber, Taylor Made Small Biz

To get profitable on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook: Start with the end in mind. Once you have a great following, what exactly do you want people to do? Since most of you are concerned with the business use of attracting prospects, converting them to paying clients, and  getting great referrals, my focus will be on just that.

Most frustrated business owners are stuck without a purpose and social media doesn't make sense until you get past it.  For those of you who know me, you know I am all about having a plan, tracking to the plan and correcting the course.  With social media, I tend to skip the plan, jump in, see what is there and define the plan as I go. Yes I still have to have a plan.

Who's your audience: You must know your target market (many a business owner does not). Check here for details about defining your target market.

What do they want to hear: Do your research online using keywords and searching as if you are one of your ideal clients. When you are ready, start your monthly newsletter and then a weekly blog. This assumes that your target market will be online reading tips and tricks, or hints.  Once that habit is formed, it is time to branch out to find other venues.

It is important to have something to say that is not being said by everyone else or not in the same details or with the same perspective. Avoid the "me too" approach of repeating what others said or posting their posts with no added value.  Make your content original. Be a master of your topic.

How to find them: You are looking for 2 different venues 1) where like-minded people are sharing information you can use and 2) those that are looking for information you can give and benefits them.

The BLOG and Newsletter are now the "backend" tools that will fuel your marketing machine. The front end tool becomes your involvement in your new community. Just as in a live community, start by listening or reading first and then contribute as you become aware of the needs of the community. Look for the FAQ page for Newbies. These have a variety of rules that you don't want to violate at the risk of being booted out.

The rules for your marketing machine:
  1. HAVE something to SAY.
  2. HAVE something for the reader to DO.
  3. Build the relationship (preferably in an automated method)
What to tell /show them: On all 3 of the recommended business related sites of LinkedIN, Facebook, Twitter, you will have the chance to create your profile.
  1. Pick either your own name if you are branding you in your company or consider using your company name.
  2. Put in your picture not the avatar.
  3. Put in your web links.
  4. Include some personal aspects. Take the time to put enough detail into your profile that will help you be clearly different.
While you can update your profile, and you should, you don't get a second chance to make a first impression.

Get started by being real, honest, caring, supportive of others, a contributor. This takes time. Newbies generally start at once per week. To grow your following you will accelerate to 3 times per week and to be quoted by others (getting natural referrals) you will be online once per day.

Find out what others are saying using Backtype.com and start commenting on the blogs that relate to your master area of expertise. Provide additional inks back to your stuff that further clarifies your message and creates in bound links.

Stay tuned for Part 2: Fine Tuning with Tools in May's issue of MaxLife News.
