Vision 2009, Reality Check
By Gary Barnes | www.MaxLifeInternational.com

What is reality? By its very definition, reality is what's real. When we read, hear or see something, we make a determination whether what we are experiencing is real or not. In 2009, our ability to determine what is real or not, particularly with the economy, will determine our level of success or frustration.

I would like to share a personal story with you that illustrates this point. In 1988, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. My doctor told me that I would be in a wheelchair or dead within 10 years. I had a decision to make ... whether the doctor's diagnosis was my reality or if I had another choice. I chose to accept my doctor's diagnosis as his opinion, and not as my reality. I decided to focus on where I was going in life. I created my vision for life and am happy to share that, as of this Thanksgiving, I passed my 20-year anniversary from that original diagnosis. I'm walking with no assistance and if I hadn't told you I was diagnosed with MS, you wouldn't know.

When you hear news that the economy is bad and that you should expect that business will be down in 2009, what do you do? This is where you get to activate your personal reality check.

In order to start this process, I believe that you have to create a foundation on which to build. This foundation is your vision. If I were to ask you what is your vision for 2009, would you be able to tell me? It has been said that most people spend more time planning their vacations than planning their lives. I found this to be true. Your vision allows you to keep your focus, no matter what is going on in your environment.

How do you create a vision both for you personally, and if you have one, your business? To start the vision process I would encourage you to answer five questions that touch every area of your life .
  1. What do you want to have?
  2. Where do you want to go?
  3. What do you want to do?
  4. What do you want to give?
  5. What do you want to be?
We have lost the childlike ability to dream. Go into a room with no distractions and set a timer for 10 minutes. Allow your mind to ask those five questions and write down whatever comes to your mind as answers. As you write, you may have a little voice in your head that says "That's not you" ... "You can't have that" ... "That's for others" ... or other similar words. This is not a time to justify your answers about whether or not this is to be your reality.   Instead, allow it to be your raw data to use to create your vision.

When I go through this process, I call it creating my Christmas list. My belief is, what ever I put on the list can happen if I choose to make it happen. But if I don't put it on the list, it can't. Please allow this process to be fun.

Creating your vision is the most powerful life-changing process that you can embrace.

In the next issues of MaxLife News, I and others will be sharing how to maximize every area of your life.

If you have questions on developing your personal vision or would like to share your vision with me. You can e-mail me at GaryBarnes@MaxLifeInternational.com.

I know from personal experience, that there is opportunity in every adversity. I look forward to connecting with you in 2009 and together making 2009 our most prosperous and enjoyable year. Ever!
Comfort Food ...Your Two-Sided Friend
by Nordine Zouareg  | www.NordineZ.com

NordineZ 98x100With one holiday under your loosened belt, you're gearing up for many more celebrations...and piles of seasonal comfort food. If you don't mind, I'd like to be totally candid with you today.

Sure, I could write you a 'feel good' article about cutting back a few calories and exercising a few minutes each day, but I'd rather be perfectly frank (and truly helpful).

Here's the real deal: You abuse food.

That's right. You're overweight because you eat too much, and you eat too much because it brings immediate pleasure.

I am here to point out that this pleasure comes at high price...

The other side of comfort food: You've heard dishes being referred to as 'comfort food'-some restaurants even have an entire section of their menu designated as comfort food. But comfort food is more than just a hearty dish.
  • It's those extra calories that you eat to feed an emotional need rather than a nutritional need.
  • It's excessively big portions that leave you stuffed.
  • It's high calorie snacks.
  • It's sugary treats.
  • It's fried, cheese smothered appetizers.
  • It's whatever you indulge in with mindless munching.
Could you relate to any of the above? Most of us tend to gravitate toward a particular form of comfort food. For many women it's chocolate or other sugary treats. For men it often takes a saltier form.

Think of the last time you ate for pleasure rather than nourishment. Why'd you do it?

Out of Habit: Your body loves routine. If you always snack while watching television then you'd probably find it hard to relax without going through that munching motion. The good news is that once you break the cycle your body will quickly adapt to a healthier routine.

To Change Your Mood: Does the thought of a cupcake bring a smile to your lips? Does it brings subconscious "feel-good" moments that are attached to memories of happy times? How about a large pizza to lift your mood? Pay attention to the emotions that trigger you to overeat-you may be surprised how often you use food to feel better.

Because Everyone's Doing It: Who can resist comfort food when it's offered among friends? Peer pressure doesn't just apply to teenagers-it's another reason to overeat. Remember that true friends will support your decision to refrain.

Can you remember how you felt after you last filled up on comfort food? If you're honest, you'll admit that the stuffed and bloated feeling was downright awful. So why do it?

Come on, where have your eating habits gotten you?
  • Into clothes that are a few sizes larger.
  • Drained and with less energy than ever before.
  • Plagued with health concerns and prescriptions.
  • Embarrassed and frustrated with your body.
Most people don't realize it, but the battle to overcome your eating habits is decided by a single body part-and it's not your mouth. (Your mouth is simply a puppet.)

It's your brain. Once you've made up your mind, for better or for worse, you can bet that your body will obey your decision to the letter. You've proven it time and time again.

So make the decision to give up your unhealthy dependence on comfort food.

There is no better time than now.

Making a change is hard-that's why I'm committed to being with you every step of the way. Call today to schedule a phone or a skype consultation.

You can end the abuse, once and for all.

Maximize Profits Using a Virtual Assistant
Karen Schatzby Karen Schatz | Virtually With You

As a solopreneur or small business owner, you have probably struggled with (and maybe pulled out a few hairs over) how to play all roles necessary for managing and running your business successfully

You are the service/product provider, business strategist, marketing expert, web developer, cart manager, bookkeeper, administrator, etc.  You've learned to do all of these jobs but have mastered none very well and that's because your time is divided in too many directions.  You are spread too thin.
How you really want to spend your time is by providing your services, selling your products and generating revenue.  You would happily hand over these other "hats" to other people but the quandary is "who" do you hand them over to?

At some point, you may have decided to hire an employee only to find out that you now have to manage their time and work tasks, provide them with benefits, manage payroll (which requires more administrative tasks - UGH!), and you may even have decided that you want them to work out of your home office space where you now have to provide them with the proper equipment necessary to fulfill their duties.  So, instead of sharing the roles to alleviate the pain, you have effectively created more work and more aggravation for yourself.

Luckily, there is a better choice that is growing in popularity ... outsourcing to a qualified Virtual Assistant.  The best definition of virtual assistance that I've come across is defined by Cindy Greenway, author of Virtually Successful.  A Virtual Assistant is "a professional independent contractor who provides expertise, skill and assistance to other professionals to help them build their business and generate more revenue."  Virtual Assistants (also known as VAs) operate on a professional level and "partner" relationally with their clients to bring expertise and skills they already possess to the partnership.  You do not need to payroll your VA nor do you need to manage her/his time.  VAs work independently from their own home office and use their own equipment.

According to a new survey commissioned by Elance, Inc. and conducted by Harris InteractiveŽ, 1,005 U.S. adult men and women were surveyed about outsourcing to Virtual Assistants and the results are that:
  • 64% of U.S. adults would happily outsource a wide variety of tasks they dread.
  • 55% say that working with a Virtual Assistant would allow them to focus on more important tasks and errands.
  • 52% say they would have more leisure time to spend with friends, family, exercising or on vacation.
  • 34% feel that their job performance would improve.
If you haven't considered working with a VA, you should.  Outsourcing projects and tasks that are weighing you down will free you up to focus on the areas of your business that only you can provide and will allow you to generate revenue for your business, thereby maximizing your profits.  As an added benefit, working with a VA in a collaborative and long-term relationship will give you freedom you never realized you could experience.
