Life's a Beach...yes, I said "beach!"
Layer Them Up! | Can you believe that summer is winding down already? It seems like I blinked and missed all of July. However, just because the days grow shorter and a bit cooler doesn't mean you can't have reminders of those long lazy days at the beach. Living here in the Pacific Northwest - there is lots of coastline; but unfortunately it's a couple hours of driving from here. Since I am not big on the driving deal (remember, I lived in NYC for 10 years and didn't own a car during that time) I seldom, if ever, get to the coast here. But I try to keep the feeling of the beach near me - and have worked to make my little home here in the middle of farm country feel like a cozy beach cottage. Knowing that about me, it will come as no surprise that I love jewelry that reminds me of the water and the overwhelming feeling of peace I have when I am at the beach, on the ocean or lake. For me, there is something quite magical about it all - so I strive to convey that feeling in my designs. I'm thinking that you might be in the mood about now to add a few beach-inspired pieces to your collection so I've highlighted a few new styles here to help get you started. |
"Sea Glass & Freshwater Pearl Sterling Bracelet
 If you love sea glass, you'll love the look of this bracelet. The coin shaped Czech Jablonex fire-polished and matte glass beads in this design capture the essence of sea glass. Large green baroque ringed freshwater pearls are a perfect complement to the beads of glass. Small farfelle beads and beautiful blush button freshwater pearls are perfect complements to the larger pearls and beads. Aqua-Lilac Lampwork Bead & Freshwater Pearl Sterling Bracelet

Maybe they are leaves...maybe they are petals of a flower or maybe they are small waves in St. John. I see them all when I look at these silver-lined lampwork glass beads. Chameleons of sort, at one angle they are a lovely shade of aqua and then change their position and they have a lilac hue to them. Clear crystal quartz (aka rock quartz) long faceted rectangles add just the right flash while the blush rose color of the button baroque freshwater pearls make it all very lady-like...in a good non-stuffy way. Perfect for that tea party...or wedding. If that wasn't enough, Czech Jablonex faceted clear round beads make the perfect companion for the others at the party. As you know, most of my designs are bold - this one, however, in my mind is petite. Well, maybe I should say "less-bold?" It will get noticed when you wear it - but that's a good thing, right? It closes with a sterling silver 3-loop toggle clasp so you get the fit that's just right. I think you'll agree that anyway you look at it - it's downright lovely! Kyanite, Crystal Quartz & Freshwater Sterling Necklace
 Wowser - there is something rather mystical about kyanite. The overall blue-green color is magnificent; and the underlying flashes of silver and lighter blue-green are mesmerizing. Here's the idea - close your eyes and think of the Caribbean ocean and just below the surface the sunlight catches the shimmer of the schools of angelfish that flash this way and that. That's kyanite. Well, I guess you need to keep your eyes open while you read; but once you read the sentence above you can then close your eyes and get the picture! Partnered with the clearest of clear crystal quartz (aka rock crystal) and creamy soft white baroque freshwater pearls the kyanite really shows its stuff. Add a few specialty cut faceted Czech glass beads and you've got a real beauty around your neck. This is not the necklace to wear when you want to be a wallflower and not get any attention. You can be sure that people will notice and want to know more about it. A beautiful and heavy weight double ring sterling silver toggle gives you length options. Wear it loose for that "messy perfection" look or you can twist the strands softly for a closer to the neck high-style torsade look. Show me the details...please. |

Flourite & Aquamarine Five-Strand Sterling Necklace
 It all starts with ten huge; I mean big, natural fluorite beads in various shades of blue-green. Visualize the beautiful Caribbean when you are gazing into a deep area of that gorgeous water. Ten fluorite beads, each measuring about an inch in size are simply lovely. Aquamarine polished nuggets sprinkled throughout are a smashing complement. Layers of Czech "sea glass" beads in various finishes, shapes and colors mix with different sizes of Czech glass pearls in ivory and silver-grey. This signature look comes together with a comfortable and easy to use sterling silver clasp. Wear it loose and easy or softly twist it once for a closer to the neck look. Sterling Sand Dollar & Shell Drop Pendant on Cord
 How about this for a beautiful reminder of just how much you love the surf, sand and those umbrella drinks you associate with summer and all things vacation? Soft mother of pearl ovals and squares join with the softest of pink shell and specialty Czech glass luna and ringed ivory pearls in this long drop pendant. Splashes of sparkling Czech glass coin and rondelle beads catch the light and add just the right amount of pizzazz. Crowned by a cast sterling silver sand dollar charm that measures ¾" in diameter and is made in the U.S.A., this fun and happy pendant dances off a polished sterling bail and is attached to a double knotted long waxed cotton cord. Don't think this is just for summer - it would look lovely over a turtleneck when the days turn cold and grey. | Mother-of-Pearl, Crystal Quartz, Freshwater Pearl & Swarovski Crystal Rope Bracelet
 Another one of those designs that look like you discovered it while on vacation at some exotic beachy resort. The rope measures 3/8" in diameter and closes with antique silver finished bead caps. The silver color of the two mother-of-pearl beads is mystical and really comes to life when mixed with the clear crystal quartz nugget and large grey baroque ringed freshwater pearl. A glint of one of Swarovski's newest colors is the icing on the cake. The crocheted component of the bracelet is made with Jablonex Czech glass grey beads - some matte, some transparent, and others looking like magical hematite. They are a perfect complement to the "charms" that dance from the rope. The unique design of this bracelet means that you simply (and carefully) roll it over your hand and onto your wrist. I love these bracelets layered with metal bracelets from my jewelry box. Be creative, you can style a different look every day of the week. That's the fun part. Also, just so you know, the technique used to make this design is a variation of an ancient one used by the women in Nepal and the repetitive nature of the crocheting process is rather meditative for me. What is it about the water that brings a sense of calm? Does everyone feel that way or just those of us who grew up with water as a big part of our lifestyle? I don't really know. I do know that the beach is one thing I missed when I lived in New York and it is the biggest thing I miss living here...now. I am glad for the longing as it serves as a catalyst to design jewelry that speaks to the ocean and its treasures.
