Perhaps the Best Way to Get Your Pastels On?
So, once again, I am looking at the Pantone® picks for Spring-Summer 2010. While I know that pretty pastels are all the rage -- I wonder who will dress in head-to-toe color? I think most of us will stick with our black, white and khaki/chino for the warmer months coming up. While we might think twice, maybe three times, before we don pink pants -- we don't have to give much though to the joy of wearing a splash of pink on our wrist or around our neck. Same goes with the pastel blues chosen as color hits by those folks at Pantone. (Just in case you don't know who Pantone is just Google "pantone" and you'll get more information than you'll need to know in this lifetime, and perhaps the next!)
Turquoise and Black Czech Glass Sterling Silver Bracelet
 |
If you follow what the color experts say -- rose quartz, blue chalcedony, prehnite, cape amethyst, yellow jade and calcite are excellent choices for the season. Toss in some turquoise and you've got the full picture. But, the reality of it is, these gemstones are not just good choices for this season -- they are good for all seasons, for years and years to come. Of course,, you can buy disposable jewelry made from plastic in the trending colors that will most likely only last one season, -- if you're lucky -- but times being what they are, my suggestion is that you invest in quality pieces that are timeless in design and made with real gemstones and the finest quality glass beads. Designs such as these will last for many seasons to come. Heck you could be wearing them in spring 2020 and won't you look fine! You have to admit that good quality will always give you a better return on your investment overall. Good golly, just when I think my "B" school education has finally left the building, it comes back to haunt me in little ways -- like the ROI statement I just made. So, I apologize for that...I think. Anyhow -- I leave you with one final question. "Will you be wearing pink around your hips or pink around your wrist?" |
Rose Quartz, Freshwater Pearl, Czech Glass Beads Three-Strand Sterling Silver Bracelet
So soft, so feminine yet so "statement." How is it that something that makes me think of wispy cotton candy can look so strong at the same time? Chunky, softly faceted rose quartz nuggets partner with the prettiest of pink petite freshwater pearls and Beautiful (and, yes, that is Beautiful with a capital "B") ivory Czech glass pearls in varying sizes and unusual baroque and glittery rondelle shaped glass beads add to the delight of the rose quartz. I can actually see this on a bride who flies in the face of tradition and adds a whisper pink sash to her gown. I absolutely love mixing it up, don't you? Closes with an adjustable sterling silver clasp. Drooling over the possibility of a coordinating necklace? Click here to see what we have.

Blue Chalcedony, Eagle Eye Agate, Czech Glass Sterling Silver Three-Strand Bracelet
I love chalcedony. But unlike many designers, I love the pieces that contain the white streaks that give the gemstone personality. Case in point -- the nuggets on this bracelet. Something about this bracelet makes me think of lace. This design says "confident" yet it is still very soft and feminine. I like that. The eagle eye agate is one of my all time favorites in the agate category and very difficult to find. The smaller coins in this design are the perfect proportion and punctuate the nuggets and Czech glass beads perfectly. Closes with an adjustable sterling silver toggle clasp. From the TRL Jewelry Trunk Show Collection. It's your lucky day...there are coordinating necklaces.

Bold Green Aventurine and Czech Glass Bracelet
The natural green color of this aventurine gives me a sense of serenity and peace. Large 10mm x 15mm rondelles and Czech fire-polished highly faceted rondelles and rounds play well together. Closes with an oversized c-ring clasp, also called a signora clasp. Layer it or wear it alone -- either way, it's just wonderful. From the TRL Jewelry Trunk Show Collection. Yes, there are gorgeous green aventurine necklaces...do you want to see?

Pink and Black Oval Lampwork Bead Bracelet
Coco (yes, that Coco) would have been proud -- large one inch pink and black lampwork beads, Czech and Japanese glass beads, top-quality silver-plate chain and lobster claw clasp make a lovely statement. The pink and black combo has long been a favorite of mine -- and from what I can tell, a fav of yours as well.

Prehnite, Freshwater Pearl and Czech Glass Necklace Layered with Rhodocrosite Bold Necklace
Would you just look at that beauty of a look, Yes, each necklace is lovely on its own -- but some times you just feel like mixing it up. The fun is you get to be your own stylists with these single strand designs. Layer them up and lace grosgrain and organze ribbons around both for that soft frilly and, dare I say, a bit girly-girl look. Or if you are in to those gargantuan floppy flower pins this season attached that to the strands of beads and you've got the look for this season. The good news with doing it yourself is that you are not stuck with items that are so trendy they have to be shelved next month. Smart you -- just remove the ribbons and bows and flowers and you've got a look that is timeless. That's investment dressing in my book. Hope it is in yours as well. Learn more about these two stunners...

Rhodocrosite and Czech Glass Bold Bracelet
Rhodocrosite is one of my favorite stones. In Tucson, these beads grabbed me -- maybe they reminded me of the heishe beads from my early, early, early days of making jewelry. Paired with silver-lined Japanese glass beads and Czech fire-polished faceted and 10mm rounds, the light catches the veins running through these 1/2" hand cut beads. Since the clear form of this gemstone is over-the-top expensive and quite rare -- it's a good thing that I prefer the opaque and translucent beads. The color makes me think of homemade strawberry ice-cream -- you know with no artificial coloring added -- strawberries and cream. Yummy. (Don't mistake this for the other gemstone called rhodonite -- the colors of the two stones are very different.) Closes with a large c-ring top-quality silver-plate clasp with extender. Worn alone or layered with other sterling silver link chain or bangle bracelets, it is just beautiful Soft and girly -- but not "bubble-gum...I'm six" pink. From the TRL Jewelry Trunk Show Collection.

Chrysocolla, Jablonex Czech Glass and Linked Chain 3-Strand Bracelet
Another beautiful gemstone piece. Chrysocolla nuggets are hefty guys (7/8" x 1/2") of lovely shades of turquoise blue with soft brown and gray matrix. Do you think they fit into the pastel category? Maybe? Japanese glass beads, baroque shaped Czech clear glass beads and silver-plate metal tubes are a good complement to the oh-so-pretty gemstones. The Florentine-finished oval chain brings it all together closing with a swivel lobster clasp and a 1" extender chain for true personal fit. From the TRL Jewelry Trunk Show Collection.

While it's true, pastels aren't just for springtime; they look lovely year round. But just looking at these beauties makes me long for warmer days and fewer layers of clothing. Heavy sigh. I especially love the fact that the main stars of each piece are real gemstones -- from the earth gifts of Mother Nature. True beauties in their own right. I also put glass beads in that category too. Since glass is made from silica, which is found in nature, for me that means it is the real deal, too. I love that the designs are weighty and feel solid when I wear them. I hope you like that about them too. Nothing worse than that clinkity-clink hollow sound of tin-like jewelry. Does that bug you as much as it does me?
Since we are talking about things that make us nuts, how about buying something and then having to wait two to three weeks to get it? Don't worry. Orders for in-stock items received before noon west coast time are shipped out the very same day. I ship via USPS Priority Mail (First Class for earrings) so, depending on where you live in the country, you'll be looking fabulous in your pretty new goodies within 3 to 5 days. That works for me. And, each item is wrapped in our special little way which makes it even more fun when it does arrive at your doorstep.
If you got this far, you might want to follow-me on my blog -- new goodies posted there several times a week. A girl could lose her mind...so many things to contemplate.
This spring I am sending thoughts of joy, perfect health and lots of love as we move into the warmer time of the year. I'll see you soon...looking fabulous in all your pretty new pastel things. But...remember...pink pants? Not such a good idea...unless you're eight...then they are really cute.
