Get Your Color Splash With Real Gemstones
 The Tucson Gem Show was a blast. It was great to see old friends, talk business, hunt for new treasures and eat way too much fabulous food. I returned just in time for the steady stream of "treasure chests" that started arriving in the studio. You can imagine my mailman's expression when I responded with "rocks" to his "what's in these little boxes that makes them so heavy?" question. I'm pretty sure he thinks I am a little nutty! And, perhaps he is right! Now the second part of the fun begins -- designing and creating lots of "stuff" for all of you. Okay, does it seem like I am fascinated by quotation marks this morning?
 While the fashionistas have declared spring and summer 2010 as the seasons of color, I know that all of you who do want color want it in classic and timeless ways and want it in the form of real gemstones, real glass and real crystal. As many of you know, I'm not a big fan of the plastic -- unless, of course, it is of the vintage variety, then that's a different story. I also know that you like wearing my "stuff" because you like standing out from the crowd and do not like to see yourself coming and going. I totally get that. In fact, it is that thinking that led me to this place right here, right now -- making unique and unusual limited jewelry pieces as one-, two- and maybe three-of-a-kind pieces. So the chances of you seeing someone else wearing the identical piece is pretty slim. And, of course, unless you're eleven, that's a good thing.
Clear purists, I haven't forgotten you. Sometimes you don't want to wear color but you still want to dazzle. So I've highlighted a stunningly clear gemstone design here to tempt you into looking at them all. Feeling kicky? How about layering the clear with the colored -- now that feels good. Oh boy -- let the styling begin. |
Blue Chalcedony, Eagle Eye Agate, Sterling Silver Three-Strand Necklace
 I love chalcedony. But unlike many designers, I love the cuts that still contain the white streaks that give the gemstone personality. Case in point -- the nuggets on this necklace. Something about the design makes me think lace. It says says "confident" yet it is still very soft and feminine. I like that. The eagle eye agate is one of my all time favorite agates and very difficult to find. The smaller coins in this design are the perfect proportion and punctuate the nuggets and Czech glass beads. Blue Chalcedony, Eagle Eye Agate Sterling Silver Three-Strand Bracelet

Red Aventurine and Czech Glass Copper Three-Strand Bracelet
 I don't know about the healing properties of copper; but I do know that when I look at this bracelet I feel happy! Not sure if it is the natural red aventurine oval beads or the beautifully detailed copper beads; I just know that mixed with the textured copper round link chain it all comes together and makes a happy statement. It's true that all of these designs are built around some of the most incredible gemstone beads I have ever seen. I always select the best of the find and then design each piece to showcase the gemstones. Most importantly, all of the pieces are comfortable, very wearable, classic, elegant and timeless. So please wear them -- day, evening and night. I feel so sad when pieces sit in a box somewhere waiting for that special event to finally break out. So, dress it up or dress it down -- just dress it, please.
