It's Raining Pro-Lifers

Walk for Life West Coast: Timmerie Millington Reports

Thirty Survivors from Southern California braved torrential rain on Thursday, January 21st as they began their journey to San Francisco to commemorate the thousands of lives lost since the Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade.  Standing strong to face the issue of abortion and to be voices for voiceless, Survivors led and participated in several pro-life events in Northern California.

Oakland

The Survivors started their weekend with a Show the Truth Picket on Friday morning at Webster Street abortion clinic in Oakland -- the abortion clinic where Reverend Walter Hoy was arrested for violating Oakland's 8-foot bubble ordinance.  This 8-foot bubble ordinance prohibits sidewalk counselors and prayer warriors from going within eight feet of anyone walking into the abortion clinic.  Instead, you must ask for permission to approach.  You may not even hand literature to a woman seeking an abortion without asking permission to approach, or else you are violating the city's ordinance.  Despite rumors to the contrary, this is only the law in the city of Oakland and it is not statewide.

By prosecuting Walter Hoye, the clinic had effectively intimidated all prayer warriors and picketers to the other side of the street. The Survivors challenged some of the procedure restrictions against picketers.  Clinic workers had said that you could not hold signs or talk to women outside the clinic, but they were wrong.  In fact you could hold signs and speak with anyone entering the clinic.  The Survivors demonstrated that you could be on the public sidewalk in front of the Webster Street clinic legally.  Over 15 police officers were present at the Survivors picket, and the Survivors were able to work with law enforcement to help clarity the rights of sidewalk counselors and prayer warriors.

Testing areas where understandable fear has taken over is one of roles the Survivors play.  Survivors helped a dear pro-life grandmother, who had been scared by clinic workers into staying across the street, to realize she could legally be on the public sidewalk in front of the clinic. That day The Survivors were able to be a witness to many women walking into the abortion clinic.

"Peacefully, nonviolently, but boldly we exercise and protect our first amendment rights," said Jeff White, Founder of Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust.

Following the Survivors' picket, the Survivors participated in the 3rd Annual Standing Up 4Life Walk in Oakland, where there was a fantastic lineup of speakers; one of the key speakers was Dr. Jim Garlow, Senior Pastor of Skyline Wesleyan.

Dr. Garlow emphasized the necessity for the black community to be involved in the battle against abortion.  It was fantastic to see the black community rallying to the pro-life cause.

Following the walk in Oakland, the Survivors were invited to speak at a youth rally where they shared about the ministry of Survivors.  They encouraged youth to become active in the pro-life movement in their own hometowns.

San Francisco

Representing the youth in the Walk for Life

On Saturday, the Survivors joined over forty thousand other people at the Walk for Life in San Francisco.  It was a great opportunity for the Survivors to walk in solidarity with fellow Americans and to share about their involvement in the pro-life movement.  Some of the young Survivors were interviewed on Catholic radio stations.  At the end of the Walk for Life path, the Survivors had a booth promoting the Survivors ministry and encouraging youth to join their peers at the Campus Life Tours and Pro-Life Training Camp.

The Survivors also conducted a Million to One Memorial Die-In, a visual witness commemorating the millions of human casualties of abortion.  The Survivors' fetal development signs were set up surrounding the Memorial Die-In.  This was a great example to other pro-lifers of just one of the creative events the Survivors organize.  Students passed out literature at the Memorial Die-In and shared information about abortion and the work the Survivors do.

The Survivors' presence in Northern California strongly encouraged other youth to be bold witnesses for the pre-born.  The young Survivors expressed their opinions and showed their strengths in ways that touched and inspired many.

36 years of legalized abortion in the United States, and we have just witnessed thousands coming together from across the country to bring a loud and clear message:  We will continue to be voices for the voiceless.  One day we will see an end to abortion because of people like the Survivors who are unafraid to stand for what they believe in and practice their first amendment right.

What Are They Scared Of?

The pro-abortion group NOW is up in arms over a pro-life Super Bowl ad.

CBS has agreed to run a 30 second commercial during the Super Bowl about Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow's mother choosing life instead of following a doctor's recommendation to have an abortion, and pro-aborts everywhere are angry that this powerful story will be told to a national audience.

Tim TebowPam Tebow was on a missions trip to the Philippines while pregnant with her fifth child, Tim, and contracted a disease.  Doctors urged her to have an abortion in fear of the potential risk of the baby contracting it too. She lovingly decided to decline the offer and later gave birth to Tim.  Already breaking ground at the age of 22 he is a Heisman Trophy winning American football quarterback for the Florida Gators.  He was also the first college football player to play both rush and pass for 20 touchdowns in a season and was the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy.

Tim has spoken before about his mother's decision to choose life.  However, Focus on the Family offered to foot the $2.5 million bill to take it national.  And what better way to reach millions of Americans then by airing a  30-second commercial during the Super Bowl on CBS?  But wait - "pro-choice" organizations, such as NOW and the Feminist Majority Foundation are upset. They claim that CBS has "in the past rejected ads that advocate specific views on controversial issues of public importance".

My questions are these: Why are these "pro-choice" organizations coming out in complete opposition to this commercial, which no one has seen yet, when Pam Tebow is simply educating Americans about her "choice"?  Isn't that what their movement is fighting for?  Choice?  Just yesterday Center for Reproductive Rights accused Pam Tebow of lying about her situation because abortion wasn't legal in the Phillipines.  These pro-choice organizations pride themselves on being feminists and caring for women but as soon as one woman speaks out about the pressures of her pregnancy they're quick to throw punches and do anything to shut her up.

Tim Tebow is also a survivor of the abortion holocaust and his willingness to speak out against abortion serves as inspiration for the pro-life youth majority in America.  The Survivors applaud Tim's courage and hope that he will continue to take a stand against this holocaust plaguing our generation.

We ask to you keep praying for Tim and Pam Tebow and that their First Amendment right to Free Speech is not violated.  Focus on the Family raised the money to be able to share this powerful story with millions of Americans, in hopes that many lives will be impacted and saved.

In the past few days, pro-abortion groups have generated over 120,000 letters to CBS, NFL, and Super Bowl advertising executives, asking that they scrap the ad, which has yet to be unveiled. In response, a petition was launched by Life Site News whereby pro-lifers can express support to CBS for its decision to air the ad, and exhort the network not to cave to pressure to drop the ad. The names of those who sign the petition will be forwarded on to CBS executives (please sign the petition here).

"As a woman who has had an abortion, I applaud Mrs. Tebow for courageously choosing life for her son Tim," said Cheryl Conrad of Survivors. "Look at all of his accomplishments; every abortion denies the amazing potential that is inside every child.  Please join the Survivors as we pray for Tim Tebow's ad to air on Super Bowl Sunday."

The Survivors Campus Life Tour needs YOU for this coming semester.

We need a courageous team of college-age men and women, to bring the truth about abortion and the healing power of God's grace to their peers.

What does it entail?

The Campus Life Tour has visited over 1,500 campuses across the United States since 2001, challenging the culture of death at high schools and colleges across America.

Using graphic photos, relevant literature and powerful debate, members of the Campus Life Tour team speak to their peers about abortion. Every conversation, every piece of paper distributed, every photograph shown can save countless human lives.

New for the Spring Semester:
Unique Training and Ministry in Mexico!

As pro-lifers, we are very concerned about children both before they are born, and after.  The Campus Life Tour Team will travel to Mexico to minister to children in an orphanage who are among the poorest of the poor in Ensenada.  Team members will minister in Mexico at the beginning of the semester, during the seventh week, and at the end of the semester.

Your heart will be forever impacted as you hold these little Mexican orphans in your arms.  You will be blessed as we bless them by bringing food, clothes and toys to brighten their lives, but the best gift you will share is your love.

Travel, housing and meals will be provided during the semester including the Mexico mission trip.

Do you have what it takes?

18 to 30 year old committed Christians who have a heart for the pre-born, an attitude of service and a willingness to learn the skills needed to articulate and debate the pro-life position. Must be a team player and willing to travel.

Campus Life Team members are required to raise their own financial support.
  • Entire Semester - 12 weeks: $1,200
  • Half Semester - 6 weeks: $600
After we receive your application, we will send you tools to help you with fundraising.

When do I start?

As soon as you can!  The new semester begins February 5, 2010.  Team members may commit to the entire Campus Life Tour Spring Semester, (12 weeks), or the first half, (6 weeks), or the last half, (6 weeks).

Mission Statement

Compelled by the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and our respect for life, the Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust speak out on behalf of over 50,000,000 children lost to abortion in America since 1973.  Dedicated to defending the right to life of future generations, we are engaged in a battle to end America's genocide. We recognize the urgency of this war, as over 3,000 children die each day in the United States because of abortion.

The Survivors encourage and empower the youth of today as they dare to rise up against the slaughter of innocent children through abortion. We are committed to educating and equipping young activists who have a heart for the pre-born and are willing to be used by God to "Defend those unjustly sentenced to death." (Proverbs 24:11)
