A SWEET WAY TO MAKE EVERYONE SMILE!

Hello, Dentists!
Thank you for your previous participation and/or interest in the Halloween Candy Buy-Back program and for your thoughtfulness in donating the candy to Operation Gratitude or other troop support groups.  We hope that you will promote this worthwhile activity again this year: Operation Gratitude will be sending 50,000 Holiday care packages (including our next Milestone Package on December 17) and we need tons of candy, literally, to fill them! In 2010, we received 120 TONS!
This year we welcome your participation even without paying the children $1/pound for the candy! Alternative ideas -- "goody bags" with dental hygiene products, coupons from local businesses, and/or entries into a drawing for a special prize, etc. We like the concept of "Give-Back" and we're using both the Halloween Candy Buy-Back and Halloween Candy Give-Back names. Please feel free to use whichever name best reflects what you plan to do.
BREAKING NEWS: This year, we want all that candy PLUS we hope to receive
100,000 Toothbrush/Toothpaste sets to include with the candy!
Will you help us reach this goal? IMPORTANT NEWS: The Halloween Candy Buy-Back website has recently undergone some major updates and revisions, so we are asking every dentist who plans to participate this year to please register/re-register on the site -- even if you were previously registered and have participated with us in the past. Please add all your current information so your community will know you are participating. Note: If you recently registered (after July 1, 2011), you will already be in the system and do not need to re-register.
By registering on the site, you can receive Updates, Newsletters, Sample Press Releases and other valuable information from Dr. Chris Kammer, the architect of this great program.
We also invite you to "like" us on our Halloween Candy Buy-Back ("HCBB") Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/HalloweenCandy. We plan to use the HCBB Facebook page as a forum for discussions about the Buy-Back program, to share photos and ideas, and spread the good word, so please be sure to connect with us there! "Like" our www.facebook.com/OperationGratitude page as well for great troop photos, letters and updates on all our activities.
 Please check out our fun new Halloween Candy video too! We can provide digital files of the video to play in your office.
We especially encourage your office and your patients to write letters/cards to the troops (letter writing flyer available here) that we can include with your candy in the Operation Gratitude Care Packages. We also welcome donations of dental hygiene products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental floss -- perhaps your suppliers/reps would be willing to participate as well by donating these items! |

Additional items you might consider collecting for Operation Gratitude:
Beanie Babies/WebKinz or other small stuffed animals
Hand-Knit/Crochet Scarves and Hats
Socks (beige, khaki and dark colors preferred)
Small packages of Beef Jerky
Individual Packets of Hot Cereal
Energy/Protein Bars
DVDs/CDs
Sealed Lip Balm, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Dental Floss, Mouthwash
Personal Letters of Appreciation
Creative Ideas:
~Partner with local businesses to provide discounts and coupons in exchange for candy.
~Contact local sports teams (professional, schools, clubs) to set up Halloween Candy drop-off sites at their facilities.
~Hold a contest for the most candy donated or to guess the total weight of candy given back; give prizes to winners.
~Send out Press Releases (samples on the Buy-Back website) to local media, PR firms, schools, civic groups, businesses, restaurants.
