Tonight, Wednesday, August 4th at 7pm at the Wellesley Free Library, join the amazing Shonda Schilling, founder of the Shade Foundation of America and wife of retired Boston Red Sox All-Star pitcher Curt Schilling, for an inspirational conversation about her family's painful and joyous story of her son Grant's struggle with Asperger's Syndrome. Click HERE for all the event details and HERE for a great article in the Wellesley Townsman about the event. We are proud to share news of HUTCH, a magazine of kids' stories, poetry and artwork, launched in Spring 2008. In addition to kids' contributions, future issues of HUTCH will continue to feature contributions, writing, and art tips by Peter H. Reynolds and other guest authors and illustrators, and will be edited and produced by Nancy Marsh, who has great experience helping kids publish their work. For kids who are interested in contributing to the next issue of HUTCH, the entry deadline for the Fall 2010 issue is September 30, 2010. Click here for Submission guidelines. Come on in and pick up a copy of Hutch at Wellesley Booksmith to see what it's all about! The excitement is building for the release of Mockingjay on Tuesday, August 24th and our visit from Suzanne Collins at the Wellesley Free Library on Tuesday, August 31st at 6pm. Buy your copy of Mockingjay at Wellesley Booksmith beginning at 9am on August 24th (books will also be available at the library for the event) to get your very own limited edition Mockingjay totebag AND you get to support your local independent bookstore - the one that brings fabulous books and authors to you!

1 You help support local author programs
We bring authors to the store, library, and your local schools at no charge, supporting authors and encouraging readers.
2 You embrace what makes us uniqueWe choose the books and gift items we carry based on our first-hand knowledge of your needs and your interests. We carry a wider array of products because we look for those unique titles and gift items you won't find elsewhere. By choosing to support locally owned businesses, you're helping to maintain the diversity and distinctive flavor of your community.
3 You nurture our community
We know you, you know us! Locally owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors, and donating to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains. Spending locally makes sure your tax dollars are put to work right here. Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and often provide better wages and benefits than chains do.
4 You help the environment
Local stores help to sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers, which are essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, and air and water pollution. Buying from a local business conserves energy and resources in the form of less fuel for transportation and less packaging.
Thank you for supporting your community independent bookstore!
Sincerely,
