It's steamy outside, but it's nice and cool at the Booksmith - and you can listen to Barry and Sally debate Brown Cows vs. Black Cows. Personally, my favorite is a Rootbeer Float. Or is that a Brown Cow? Not only are we cool, we have great events coming up that you won't want to miss. This Saturday, July 10th at 2pm we welcome Sarah Prineas, author of the heartpounding Magic Thief series for kids ages 10 & up, about an incredible place where even a thief can become a wizard and cities run on living magic. Then on Tuesday, July 20th at 7pm, take a break from the heat and listen to Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Russo talk about his novel, That Old Cape Magic . This is one event you definitely won't want to miss! Our Summer Reading Recommendations for kids and adults are in stock and all the books are on display. Our expert booksellers have pooled their remarkable knowledge and put together these lists of nothing but truly good books. So if the kids are all done with the required reading, come to us for some fun reading. There are no time-wasters on these lists!
This summer you may be off at the beach, but never fear, we are still here. Shop on our website and we will send you your books wherever you may be - with FREE shipping within the U.S.. So take advantage of our expertise even away from home - and know you are still supporting your community independent bookstore! |

Have you ever read a book and loved it so much that you just had to read another one by the same author right away? Of course you have. It has inspired a new section of our summer reading booklet -- the two-fer. Books that we feel that once you read one, you just going to have to read another. We are helping you along by suggesting some great two-fer combinations. |

Work Song & The Whistling Season by Ivan Doig
Recommended by Lorna: Work Song has just come out in hardcover. I read it and LOVED it. I've read Ivan Doig before (the 11th Man) and found myself totally caught up in the world of Morrie Morgan, the beguiling narrator of Work Song as he lands in Butte, Montana on the run from the Chicago mob. I fell in love with Morrie and the amazing cast of characters that he befriends in Butte from miners to union organizers, librarians to school children. Lucky for all of us Morrie was last seen leaving a one-room schoolhouse in Marias Coulee, the stage he stole in Ivan Doig's 2006 The Whistling Season. I couldn't wait to pick up Whistling Season as soon as I finished Work Song so that's how they became a two-fer. |

The Stormchasers & Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum
Stormchasers follows Karena as she tries to re-connect with her estranged bipolar twin, Charles, a photographer who chases tornadoes. Un-put-downable! Those Who Save Us combines a passionate, doomed love story, a vivid evocation of life during World War II, and a poignant mother/daughter drama.

| |
The Forgotten Garden & The House at Riverton by Kate Morton Lush, historical fiction that is perfect for summer reading. Both books go between present and past events featuring characters you won't soon forget.
|

Innocent & Presumed Innocent by Scott Turow
Rusty Savich just never learns. He and Tommy Molto are back at it in Scott Turow's latest courtroom drama. Will he be found innocent again?

1 You help support local author programs
We bring authors to the store, library, and your local schools at no charge, supporting authors and encouraging readers.
2 You embrace what makes us uniqueWe choose the books and gift items we carry based on our first-hand knowledge of your needs and your interests. We carry a wider array of products because we look for those unique titles and gift items you won't find elsewhere. By choosing to support locally owned businesses, you're helping to maintain the diversity and distinctive flavor of your community.
3 You nurture our community
We know you, you know us! Locally owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors, and donating to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains. Spending locally makes sure your tax dollars are put to work right here. Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and often provide better wages and benefits than chains do.
4 You help the environment
Local stores help to sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers, which are essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, and air and water pollution. Buying from a local business conserves energy and resources in the form of less fuel for transportation and less packaging.
Thank you for supporting your community independent bookstore!
Sincerely,
