Welcome summer!! It's finally here, and so is our annual Summer Reading Recommendations booklet for adults (kids will be here very soon!). We will be featuring our bright summer reading picks in the upcoming newsletters. Or if you would like to see the complete list, you can come to the store and pick up a copy or click HERE and see all the titles on our website.

On Tuesday, July 6th, join Miami denizen Danielle Joseph when she  returns to her childhood stomping ground -  Wellesley!  Danielle invites you to celebrate the publication of her two young adult  books, Shrinking Violet and  Indigo Blues, at a reception at Wellesley Booksmith.   Danielle is not only a talented writer, she is also a music aficionado, so her books resonate with teens and music lovers both! books we recommend
The books we choose for our summer reading booklets are not necessarily what are on the bestseller lists (although some of them will find their way there). These are books that we know you will enjoy. Recommending books is what we love most about our job - so take advantage of our expertise!

Here are some hardcover fiction selections from our booklet...

Island Beneath the SeaIsland Beneath the Sea by Isabel Allende

Once again, Isabel Allende returns to her beloved Latin America, and then ventures on to New Orleans. Her character Zante, a slave in 1770 Saint-Dominique, goes on to show her resilience in true Allende
tradition. A must for lovers of Allende's earlier work.

So Cold the RiverSo Cold the River  by Michael Koryta
On the outs, filmmaker Eric Shaw resorts to making home videos for a living, until Alyssa Bradford hires him to make a documentary of her father-in-law. In searching out the man's past, Shaw falls into an eerie, at times terrifying, story that will keep you reading late at night -- with the doors and windows locked.

The Lonely PolygamistThe Lonely Polygamist by Brady Udall
Beautifully written, keenly observed, and ultimately redemptive, The Lonely Polygamist is an unforgettable story of an American family -- with its inevitable dysfunction, heartbreak, and comedy -- pushed to its outer limits.

The Swimming PoolThe Swimming Pool by  Holly Lecraw
A heartbreaking affair, an unsolved murder, and an explosive romance all come to a head one summer on the Cape. A great new novel from a talented Newton author.

dog of the week
  • griswold
We have the most amazing doggie neighbors! Griswold is part of the Wasiks family - as in our favorite, incomparable Cheese Shop. Maybe next time we should invite Leroy from Tails and have a neighborhood dog party!

Notice the book to the left and behind Griswold? It's If My Dad Were a Dog. Too funny!

when you buy a book at wellesley booksmith...
1 You help support local author programs
We bring authors to the store, library, and your local schools at no charge, supporting authors and encouraging readers.

2 You embrace what makes us unique
We choose the books and gift items we carry based on our first-hand knowledge of your needs and your interests.  We carry a wider array of products because we look for those unique titles and gift items you won't find elsewhere. By choosing to support locally owned businesses, you're helping to maintain the diversity and distinctive flavor of your community.

3 You nurture our community
We know you, you know us!  Locally owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors, and donating to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains.  Spending locally makes sure your tax dollars are put to work right here.  Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and often provide better wages and benefits than chains do.

4 You help the environment
Local stores help to sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers, which are essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, and air and water pollution.  Buying from a local business conserves energy and resources in the form of less fuel for transportation and less packaging.

Thank you for supporting your community independent bookstore!

And don't forget to visit our sister store Brookline Booksmith when you are in the city!

Sincerely,
