We still have room available for our event with award-winning financial Wall Street Journal reporter Greg Zuckerman tomorrow (Thursday the 10th at 7pm). In recent weeks, Greg has been interviewed frequently by the media for his perspective on the April 2010 SEC civil suit of securites fraud brought against Goldman Sachs. Don't miss hearing Greg's perspective on the financial market in the light of current events. Due to limited space, RSVP required: (781) 431-1160 or events@wellesleybooksmith.com.

Still Alice by Lisa Genova
I finally had a chance to read Still Alice, a book that many of our customers have raved about. It was a very realistic and moving portrait of a Harvard professor suffering from early onset Alzheimers.
Neuroscientist and Massachusetts author Lisa Genova's new book will be about a thirty-something woman who suffers a traumatic brain injury in a car accident on her way to work one day. Her memory and intellect are still intact, but she loses the ability to perceive information coming from the left. Much like Still Alice, her life is changed, but she can recover and works hard to make other changes in her life as well I'm looking forward to it but Left Neglected won't be coming out until January 2011! |

The Big Short by Michael Lewis
In this follow up to Liar's Poker, Lewis goes back to Wall Street to find out how it all came crashing down. When he gave the warning, no one listened. Famous for his character-driven narratives, Lewis carefully outlines how it all began and how it all fell apart. He tells the story of several traders, revealing the history of the mortgage-backed security and the ever increasing complexity with which each new financial instrument was created. Each layer being based on increasingly risky mortgages originated by the big banks. A house of cards waiting to tumble. As always, Lewis puts the reader behind the scenes and is able to explain this web of complicated financial transactions for everyone to understand. Too bad we didn't heed his warning in the first place. |

Backseat Saints by Joshilyn Jackson
Joshilyn Jackson is one of my favorite authors. I would swear that I hear her clear, Southern voice telling me her stories in my head while I am reading. Her latest novel features Rose Mae Lolley, a character we met (briefly) in her first book, gods in Alabama. Roe is married and lives a picture perfect life -- until she meets an airport gypsy who informs her that her beautiful, abusive husband will kill her if she doesn't kill him first. If you are looking for a great read, pick this one up. You won't be disappointed! |

Sorta Like a Rock Star by Matthew Quick
Resilient Amber Appleton radiates positive energy despite life's hardships. She's the princess of hope until tragedy challenges her soul. With a cast of quirky characters, this is a funny and heartbreaking book. I loved it!
Ages 12 and up. |

Golfer's Doorstop holds the door while he practices his putting (ball included!), Mr. Nose & Ear Trimmer keeps Dad trimmed and will make him smile, smart ties with musical notes & Boston T maps and an Emergency Clown Nose just in case... of an emergency. We have the perfect gift for any Dad. Add a great book and a Father's Day card, and you are all set. |
Yes, Gino is named after THAT Gino Cappaletti, Patriots record-holding #20. This Gino Cappaletti is a 5 1/2 month-old Golden Retriever and one of my favorite customers. He is just such a happy guy - just check out that smile! Extra bright as he loves to have his teeth brushed - just make sure it's mint and not liver-flavored! |

1 You help support local author programs
We bring authors to the store, library, and your local schools at no charge, supporting authors and encouraging readers.
2 You embrace what makes us unique
We choose the books and gift items we carry based on our first-hand knowledge of your needs and your interests. We carry a wider array of products because we look for those unique titles and gift items you won't find elsewhere. By choosing to support locally owned businesses, you're helping to maintain the diversity and distinctive flavor of your community.
3 You nurture our community
We know you, you know us! Locally owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors, and donating to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains. Spending locally makes sure your tax dollars are put to work right here. Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and often provide better wages and benefits than chains do.
4 You help the environment
Local stores help to sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers, which are essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, and air and water pollution. Buying from a local business conserves energy and resources in the form of less fuel for transportation and less packaging.
Thank you for supporting your community independent bookstore!
Sincerely,
