The Lotus EatersThe Lotus Eaters by Tatjana Soli
This is the beautiful and riveting story of Helen Adams, an American photojournalist covering the Vietnam War. Starting in Saigon in 1975 where "only the losers of history" remain and looking back over the 12 years she has spent immersing herself in country and establishing love relationships with first, her photographers mentor and finally with his assistant Helen's is a fascinating story of how a woman views the war.

LiftLift by Kelly Corrigan
Written as a letter to her school age daughters, Lift is a real treasure. Both humorous and serious, this book is a reminder of how fragile life can be and how we should cherish every moment. Read it and give it.
The perfect gift for Mother's Day.

Map of True PlacesMap of True Places by Brunonia Barry
Ever since I read her first novel, The Lace Reader, I've been waiting for Brunonia Barry's next novel. I love her quirky, real characters and she doesn't disappoint this time around. It's the story of a woman negotiating huge life changes and learning to find her way out of her old life and into a new one of her choosing. She navigates these changes, and deals with her relationship with her father while back in her childhood home in Salem. I can't wait to see Brunonia again on May 12th - she is such an entertaining author.

A Beach TailA Beach Tail by
Karen Lynn Williams, illustrated by Floyd Cooper
I love the simplicity of this story and the fact that it's so kid-centered. Dad takes Gregory to the beach, where Gregory draws a lion in the sand. "Don't go in the water, and don't leave Sandy," says Dad. Dad snoozes under an umbrella, as Gregory draws Sandy's tail -- a tail that gets longer and longer and longer as Gregory absentmindedly draws his way down the beach and away from Dad. When he finally realizes that Dad is no longer in sight, Gregory follows Sandy's tail and finds his way back. This is a light, fun story, illustrated with sandy looking artwork rendered perfectly by Floyd Cooper. Young readers will love the building suspense as Gregory strays further and further from familiar ground, and they'll revel (secretly) in the joy of being able to stray where they want to, while still being tethered to home.

when you buy a book at wellesley booksmith...
1 You help support local author programs
We bring authors to the store, library, and your local schools at no charge, supporting authors and encouraging readers.

2 You embrace what makes us unique
We choose the books and gift items we carry based on our first-hand knowledge of your needs and your interests.  We carry a wider array of products because we look for those unique titles and gift items you won't find elsewhere. By choosing to support locally owned businesses, you're helping to maintain the diversity and distinctive flavor of your community.

3 You nurture our community
We know you, you know us!  Locally owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors, and donating to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains.  Spending locally makes sure your tax dollars are put to work right here.  Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and often provide better wages and benefits than chains do.

4 You help the environment
Local stores help to sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers, which are essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, and air and water pollution.  Buying from a local business conserves energy and resources in the form of less fuel for transportation and less packaging.

Thank you for supporting your community independent bookstore!

And don't forget to visit our sister store Brookline Booksmith when you are in the city!

Sincerely,
