Although you would never know it by looking out the window -- or in your basement-- Spring is here! The daffodils are blooming and our shelves are filling with fantastic new books. After cleaning up the mess in the basement, come in and reward yourself with a new book. Our big event-related news is that Gary Paulsen, the beloved award-winning author of Hatchet (to name just one) is coming to town! Join us for a free, public event on Tuesday, April 6th at Wilson Middle School in Natick, just off Route 9. The doors to the event will open at 5, Gary will speak at 6, and a booksigning will follow his presentation. (Gary's two newest books are Woods Runner and Lawn Boy Returns - both hot off the press!) We have heard great things about Gary as both a person and a presenter and think this will truly be an evening to remember! Be sure to check our website for important book signing information.
Are there any parents who do not dread "the talk"? Come to our event with award-winning sex education author Amber Madison on Wednesday, April 7th whose new book is Talking Sex with Your Kids: Keeping Them Safe and You Sane -- By Knowing What They're Really Thinking. Sounds good to me. Amber will talk about her book and have plenty of time for questions and discussion. Parents of pre-teens and teens as well as school health teachers won't want to miss this event which is co-sponsored by Planned Parenthood. Sometimes is really nice to know that you are appreciated. To know that you are loved. Know who loves you? Us. The staff of Wellesley Booksmith. We're here seven days a week, working hard to put together e-mails like this for you, to fill your orders in a timely and friendly fashion, to give you whatever help you need, whenever you need it. We're pumping money into the local economy, building a book-loving community, turning kids into readers, turning adults on to books, making friends with authors, giving feedback to publishers, spotting trends, suggesting titles, talking culture, living life, and doing all of these things for YOU. Truly. YOU'RE the reason we're here. Why would you buy your books anywhere else? ; ) |

The Three Weissmanns of Westport by Cathleen Schine
A frothy little tale of a mother and two daughters forced to fend for themselves when the man of the family (her husband, their stepfather) leaves them for another woman. Of course the daughters are 50 and 52, still they gather around their mother and retreat with her from Manhattan to Westport, CT. There they get caught up in a social swirl that comes and goes (and sometimes explodes). With a cast of characters where one is more eccentric than the next. There are charmers, predators, and plenty of amusements. Schine is a talented comic writer and this is her most popular book to date. Like eating candy.
Mapping of Love & Death by Jaqueline Winspear
Wow, totally blown away by The Mapping of Love & Death - the best since the first in the series, Maisie Dobbs.
I loved the page turning quality of the tightly woven mystery; which showcases what Jacqueline Winspear does so well, a story rooted in WWI that also lives in the present. Seeing the continued development of Maisie, learning to live with the past but maturing both personally & professionally, truly added to the story.
A Nest for Celeste by Henry Cole
Fantastic pencil illustrations fill the pages of this wonderful book and bring its inhabitants to life. Readers of all ages will love following the intelligent Celeste on her many brushes with danger. Along the way they'll gain new insights into the work of John James Audubon.
Grades 3-5 | |
The Night Fairy by Laura Amy Schlitz The delightful story of Flory, a feisty young fairy who lands in a garden after her wings are damaged. Quirky characters include an always hungry squirrel, an indifferent hummingbird, and a fierce spider! Wonderful fun!

1 You help support local author programs
We bring authors to the store, library, and your local schools at no charge, supporting authors and encouraging readers.
2 You embrace what makes us uniqueWe choose the books and gift items we carry based on our first-hand knowledge of your needs and your interests. We carry a wider array of products because we look for those unique titles and gift items you won't find elsewhere. By choosing to support locally owned businesses, you're helping to maintain the diversity and distinctive flavor of your community.
3 You nurture our community
We know you, you know us! Locally owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors, and donating to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains. Spending locally makes sure your tax dollars are put to work right here. Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and often provide better wages and benefits than chains do.
4 You help the environment
Local stores help to sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers, which are essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, and air and water pollution. Buying from a local business conserves energy and resources in the form of less fuel for transportation and less packaging.
Thank you for supporting your community independent bookstore!
Sincerely,
