Winter
Happy Vacation Week! If you are somewhere warm and sunny -- lucky you! If not, light the fire, grab a warm blanket and snuggle up in your favorite cozy chair with one of our recommended reads.  We can ship to you for no extra charge or you can pick up your books in the store. We are here for you no matter where you are!

Come hear  Kelly Corrigan, author of  the best-selling, heart-warming memoir The Middle Place. Kelly will be at the Weston Public Library on Saturday, March 6th to talk about her new book Lift, a tiny but powerful meditation on parenting and the love that will keep you fighting longer and harder than you ever thought possible.

Just a reminder that our event with Dan Hurley has been rescheduled to Tuesday, March 2. (That darn non-event of a snowstorm!) The subject of his book, Diabetes Rising, really hits home for many local families. Click on the link to the right for all the event information. To RSVP, please email events@wellesleybooksmith.com or call the store at 781.431.1160. Be sure to check out our Calendar of Events for a complete listing of our upcoming events.

We appreciate the support you give us and it's important to us to give back to our community.  One way we can do that is to support the schools, libraries and other non-profit organizations that you care about through our Wellesley Booksmith Affiliate Program.  By providing a link to Wellesley Booksmith's website, your organization can receive a portion of every purchase. It's easy to set up, just click HERE to get all the information you need to get going.  Of course, if you have any questions, please call us and we are happy to help.

The Wellesley Middle School has already signed up!  Use your purchases to support WMS PTO by shopping HERE.

Union AtlanticUnion Atlantic
by Adam Haslett

In Haslett's typical gorgeous style, he portrays a face-off between solid Yankee values and the whirlwind effects of money-making that is Wall Street.

What Would Google Do?What Would Google Do? by Jeff Jarvis
Business books generally hold little allure for me, but I found this book riveting. In it, Jarvis deconstructs the overwhelming success of Google and outlines the lessons that ALL businesses should learn from their example. If you feel bewildered by the world of online enterprise, read this book!

The Postmistress by Sarah Blake
The Postmistress weaves together the lives of three very different women at the beginning of World War II. Iris James is single, 40 years-old, and the new postmistress in Franklin, Cape Cod. Also new in town is newlywed Emma Trask, whose physician husband goes to London to assist with the casualties. In Europe, Frankie Bard is an America reporter covering the Blitz in London. The contrast between these two worlds -- naive Americans yet to join the war, and Europe in the thick of it -- makes for a book that is hard to put down. The perfect choice for fans of The Help and Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society.

The Man From BeijingThe Man From Beijing by Henning Mankell
Moving away from his wildly popular Kurt Wallender police series, Mankell has constructed a tense murder mystery with political overtones. A photographer wandering through the Swedish countryside stumbles upon a tiny village in which almost all of the inhabitants have been savagely murdered. A middle-aged Swedish judge discovers a family tie with two of the victims leading her to travel up to the village and become embroiled in the investigation. From this point suspense and intrigue start to build, as a century-old tragedy links Sweden, the western United States, and China. Mankell is brilliant in his depiction of an intelligent but deeply dissatisfied contemporary woman, as well as such disparate characters as a brutal Swedish immigrant in the 19th century American west and a sensitive young Chinese man caught up in the race to build the great railroads. The weight of the past and the struggle for the future sweeps his characters along to a stunning climax.

dog of the week
  • ziba

ZibaZiba came in to visit this week and we were all charmed by her sweet personality. She is a 9 year-old Golden Retriever stylishly trimmed to reduce those golden tumbleweed-like balls that torment many human house-cleaning dog owners.

when you buy a book at wellesley booksmith...
1 You help support local author programs
We bring authors to the store, library, and your local schools at no charge, supporting authors and encouraging readers.

2 You embrace what makes us unique
We choose the books and gift items we carry based on our first-hand knowledge of your needs and your interests.  We carry a wider array of products because we look for those unique titles and gift items you won't find elsewhere. By choosing to support locally owned businesses, you're helping to maintain the diversity and distinctive flavor of your community.

3 You nurture our community
We know you, you know us!  Locally owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors, and donating to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains.  Spending locally makes sure your tax dollars are put to work right here.  Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and often provide better wages and benefits than chains do.

4 You help the environment
Local stores help to sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers, which are essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, and air and water pollution.  Buying from a local business conserves energy and resources in the form of less fuel for transportation and less packaging.

Thank you for supporting your community independent bookstore!

And don't forget to visit our sister store Brookline Booksmith when you are in the city!

Sincerely,
