StitchesStitches by David Small
I've been a HUGE fan of David Small's illustrations for years now, but I never knew the extent to which his artword truly SAVED him until I read this memoir in graphic novel form. Harrowing, powerful, beautiful are just three of the many ways I'd describe it. Visually, this book is a masterpiece.

Empire of LibertyEmpire of Liberty by Gordon S. Wood
This is a great addition to the Oxford series. It precedes What Hath God Wrought. This is not the democracy that Jefferson and Madison imagined!

Through the Heart Through the Heart by Kate Morgenroth
I enjoy books that have two voices as this one does with the man's and woman's version of their relationship. It develops very suspensefully, keeping you guessing until the very end. It was good, compelling and different than any mystery I have ever read.

The Doom MachineThe Doom Machine by Mark Teague
I loved this book! A funny sci-fi adventure with giant spider aliens, flying saucers, two resourceful kids and a most unusual refrigerator.

NPR Discover SongsRight up at the front register we have a new display of cd's including the new NPR Discover series.  The artists featured on The New Jazz Divas, the first title in the series, are some of the best and most interesting talents in jazz today. From the unmistakable vocals of Madeleine Peyroux and Diana Krall to the singular piano styles of Eliane Elias and Patricia Barber - the legacy of great jazz divas is in very capable hands.  Come on in and check them out. We can all use some different tunes to keep us going.

All of our calendars are now 30% off! So come on in and get them now!

  • tucker

TuckerI have been waiting and waiting for Tucker to come in with his mom, Lisa Rogers, so he can have his picture taken. So here he is, all happy to be Dog of the Week. Little did I know, Tucker has his very own blog! Every dog has its dreams. Tucker, a Walker Foxhound, and Sparky, a Dalmatian, both were adopted from Buddy Dog Humane Society in Sudbury, MA. They have inspired a doggie bakery, Dreams du Dog, influenced the construction of a 6-foot fence, and underwritten several veterinary practices. Check out Tucker's blog HERE. (It's really VERY funny!)

when you buy a book at wellesley booksmith...
1 You help support local author programs
We bring authors to the store, library, and your local schools at no charge, supporting authors and encouraging readers.

2 You embrace what makes us unique
We choose the books and gift items we carry based on our first-hand knowledge of your needs and your interests.  We carry a wider array of products because we look for those unique titles and gift items you won't find elsewhere. By choosing to support locally owned businesses, you're helping to maintain the diversity and distinctive flavor of your community.

3 You nurture our community
We know you, you know us!  Locally owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors, and donating to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains.  Spending locally makes sure your tax dollars are put to work right here.  Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and often provide better wages and benefits than chains do.

4 You help the environment
Local stores help to sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers, which are essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, and air and water pollution.  Buying from a local business conserves energy and resources in the form of less fuel for transportation and less packaging.

Thank you for supporting your community independent bookstore!

And don't forget to visit our sister store Brookline Booksmith when you are in the city!

Sincerely,
