We are back to business as usual -- Storytime will resume this Friday at 10:30 am in our Children's Section of the store. Geared towards toddler and preschool aged kids, all are welcome to join us.

You can look forward to an interesting and exciting line-up of events for both kids and adults as we start our winter schedule. What better way to spend a chilly day!

If you would rather opt for curling up with a good book by the warmth of your cozy fireplace, check out our website for great bookseller recommendations as well as links to our holiday recommendations and the New England Bookseller's Association. Your holidays gifts made everyone happy, now it's time to find a good read for you!  Don't forget you can order online for pickup in the store or have it shipped to you at no charge. You can use your gift card online too.

Lastly, we will be buying used books in the ubc this week on Friday and Saturday from 1 - 4 pm. If you have any questions about selling us your used books, please check out our ubc web page with answers to frequently asked questions or give us call.

Her Fearful SymmetryHer Fearful Symmetry
by Audrey Niffenegger
Of the five days I was gone, I spent three completely under the spell of Her Fearful Symmetry. It is the most wonderful ghost story I have ever read. I loved the characters, each more quirky than the next. I was mesmerized by all the twinness. The English setting added to the charm, and the story line was just fantastic enough to keep me levitated without dropping me. To those adventurous readers willing to trust me, I beg you to give this new entry by the author of The Time Traveler's Wife a try. You will be rewarded with a kooky but contemporary tale of what happens when you mess with the fates. And you'll learn some interesting historic facts about cemeteries while you're at it. And, its not creepy at all. Reading Her Fearful Symmetry is time well spent.

Too Much HappinessToo Much Happiness by Alice Munro
Many of these stories are heartbreaking in scope and some will make you hold your breath. But - no one can write a write a story like Alice Munro.

New Year's ResolutionsOur booksellers are fabulous, generous bakers. Wonderful for sugar rushes during marathon wrapping sessions, but now it's time to pay the piper. I took a look in the ubc and found some helpful books:

Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy by Walter Willett, M.D,
Joy's Life Diet by Joy Bauer
Pilates for Dummies by Ellie Herman
8 Weeks to Optimum Health by Andrew Weil, M.D.
Eat More, Weigh Less by Dean Ornish, M.D.

LeroyAnother tall, dark, handsome Leroy came into Wellesley Booksmith today. Not our friendly neighbor, Leroy from Tails Doggie Boutique, but Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown. My new friend Leroy is a 9 year-old Standard Poodle and he was very excited to be asked to be our Dog of the Week.

when you buy a book at wellesley booksmith...
1 You help support local author programs
We bring authors to the store, library, and your local schools at no charge, supporting authors and encouraging readers.

2 You embrace what makes us unique
We choose the books and gift items we carry based on our first-hand knowledge of your needs and your interests.  We carry a wider array of products because we look for those unique titles and gift items you won't find elsewhere. By choosing to support locally owned businesses, you're helping to maintain the diversity and distinctive flavor of your community.

3 You nurture our community
We know you, you know us!  Locally owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors, and donating to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains.  Spending locally makes sure your tax dollars are put to work right here.  Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and often provide better wages and benefits than chains do.

4 You help the environment
Local stores help to sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers, which are essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, and air and water pollution.  Buying from a local business conserves energy and resources in the form of less fuel for transportation and less packaging.

Thank you for supporting your community independent bookstore!

And don't forget to visit our sister store Brookline Booksmith when you are in the city!

Sincerely,
