public sector news
GOV'T EVOLUTION MEANS INNOVATION IS NEW NORM
Mary Scott Nabers, President and CEO of Strategic Partnerships, Inc.-- The public sector marketplace is not only changing dramatically, it is changing rapidly. The evolution is going to be quite significant and the impact will be felt for many decades.
Innovation is the new norm and companies that sell to government will be expected to be just as agile and innovative as public officials. It will be interesting to see how quickly, and which, private sector firms can adjust to the new environment.
The new norm will include, but certainly not be limited to, the following:
- Shared services and interagency contracting;
- Consolidation including partnering initiatives that involve various governmental jurisdictions and regional organizations;
- Cloud computing; Telework and workplace hoteling;
- Increased use of video conference capabilities;
- Development of virtual school networks;
- University partnership initiatives;
- Public-Private Partnerships (P3s);
- Revenue-generating programs supervised by outside professionals
- Increased spending on technology;
- Social media for citizen reporting; - Aggressive economic development initiatives implemented by cities, counties and states; and
- Increased services and incentives to job-creating businesses.
Nothing stays the same forever and every industry sector is experiencing the discomfort associated with rapid change. But, the evolution of government, at the moment, is the most rapidly evolving sector of all. |
