Pointmaker by Boeckeler

Beyond Football's Telestrator

Yes, telestrators (which include the Pointmaker brand) have a famous history that begins with TV football. Super Bowl color commentator and former Oakland Raider's coach John Madden kicked off that well-known application. Here's a 1999 WIRED story that will give you details on how he helped inspire the idea among broadcasters.

You'll note that he soon sought a telestrator for Monday Night Football that would allow him to draw simple, fast lines of direction over a replay using his finger on a touch screen instead of using a stylus. That's where we came in -- when the Pointmaker video marker made its national debut on television.

Since then, TV took us further to help show the path of an incoming weather pattern and where issues are located in traffic reports . In courtroom trials, the Pointmaker has been repeatedly used to annotate multi-media images of evidence for a judge and jury, beginning with the nationally televised OJ Simpson trial in 1995.

And today, where else are Pointmaker video markers/telestrators being used? To mention only a few, they are used in:

-- Corporate boardrooms
-- Operating rooms
-- Telemedicine
-- Videoconferencing
-- Emergency operations centers
-- Training centers
-- Military communications
