Stewart Provides Screens for 83rd Academy Awards

Stewart Filmscreen Corporation was once again selected to provide screens for the 83rd Academy Awards presentation and broadcast. Stewart Filmscreen Corporation furnished both front and rear projection surfaces, and a selection of frame systems.

For the 83rd Academy Awards Stewart provided six screens; the Principal Upstage Screen (Filmscreen 100, Main Screen (SnoMatte 100) as shown above and 2 Traveling Screens (SnoMatte 100) as well as the two house screens (AeroView 100).

The principle downstage flying center screen used to display nominated and archival content, has a seamless image area of 25' 2" X 43'10" with an AT3M seamless frame and was the largest screen used at the awards show to date. This screen utilizes the FilmScreen 100 flexible rear projection screen material that is available in seamless sizes up to 40 feet by 90 feet and is formulated with a neutral density gray tint for enhanced contrast. FilmScreen 100 was chosen for the Academy Awards as it offers a very wide viewing angle for large seating configurations and is an excellent performer in venues with some ambient light present.

There was projection throughout the venue; in addition to the large 25' 2" X 43'10" screen, the production utilized six additional Stewart screens, all programmed and operated by SenovvA, Inc., under the supervision of David C. Taylor.

Silver 5D is a flexible front projection screen material which is optimized for both 2D and 3D applications

Silver 5D (3D + 2D) is an innovative fabric that offers excellent performance in passive polarized 3D applications, while maintaining outstanding performance for 2D sources. Silver 5D is formulated as a highly functional polarization preserving surface for passive, linear or circular polarized stereoscopic reproduction. Silver 5D has excellent performance in ratio of extinction, furnishing ghost free stereoscopic images.

In addition, Silver 5D has sufficient viewing cone and uniformity to provide excellent performance as a high contrast screen for conventional digital 2D projection. Silver 5D has a category leading viewing cone, a half gain value above 30 degrees, greatly reduced hot spot artifacting and excellent color reproduction. Available in seamless sizes up to 40' x 90'.

SVSi

AV Distribution and Matrix Switching Solutions Harnessing the Power of IT Networking Technology

voLANte, from SVSi, is a new and better way to distribute HD multimedia content, when and where you need it. voLANte is a fully digital solution utilizing IP networking technology and the digital cinema industry standard for high-definition video compression. All your source content, including live streaming full HD video with synchronized stereo audio and control, can be delivered to any desired location over Ethernet, fiber, or wireless using standard, low-cost IT networking equipment. Multiple content channels can be carried across a single network connection to an unlimited number of displays with visually lossless quality. And all this capability can be managed from a simple GUI interface or through third-party management systems. Easy to install and manage, yet highly scalable and feature rich, the voLANte product line is built to meet all your AV distribution and matrix switching needs.

voLANte Easily Integrates with Third Party Control Systems

SVSi voLANte partners can now download Crestron and AMX modules for voLANte encoders, decoders, DVRs, and the VDT111 Third Party Interface. Each module has working example code and touch panel project. The modules demonstrate basic functionality to help quickly put together a Crestron or AMX system with voLANte. Go to the Support section of the SVSi Partner Portal to download modules.

The voLANte VDT111 interfaces to third-party controllers to provide a simplified ASCI interface facilitating control and switching of a video distribution network. Third-party controllers such as those from AMX and Crestron can now route voLANte video-over-IP streams through a single connection the VDT111 allowing significantly faster control of an unlimited number of endpoints. Switching times with the VDT111 are approximately 100x faster than third-party controllers alone.

New Product Announcement - VTT114 H.264 Transcoder

The voLANte VTT114 Transcoder accepts a voLANte JPEG2000 input video stream and converts to H.264 for applications such as internet streaming or video-to-the-desktop. Output resolutions from 480p/i to 1080p/i are supported and the H.264 bitrate can be adjusted between 500-kbps and 6-Mbps. The VTT114 offers low-latency codec conversion that integrates seamlessly with voLANte's existing easy-to-use control options.

SVSi provides the right codec for the right task. Now both codecs can be used at the same time for visually loss-less video distribution (JPEG2000) or ultra-low bandwidth video streaming (H.264) - either on their own separate networks or together on the same network. Common control systems in the form of Conductor Server software, Conductor DiVAS controller, or third-party control make video-over-IP distribution and switching as easy as possible.
