Greetings!
Eric Moses | This year, the PRSA-LA board of directors has stepped-up its commitment to helping future public relations professionals on college campuses in Southern California. The board voted in February to double the funding it provides to the six Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapters that PRSA-LA oversees.
Additionally, the board agreed to further supplement funding for any local PRSSA chapter that helps develop and implement a PR plan for one of our monthly events.
PRSA-LA provides funding to the PRSSA programs at Biola University. California State University, Dominguez Hills, California State University, Long Beach, Pepperdine University, University of Southern California, and California State University, Northridge. We also oversee a range of programs that offer internships, mentorships and job opportunities.
Our board is thrilled to support such programs and excited by what the future holds. We look forward to exploring additional ways PRSA-LA can foster the development of local PR students.
For more details, visit the PRSSA page on our Web site or contact our chapter's PRSSA Board Liaison, Holly Ferris, at holly@ferriscomm.com.

MEMBER MILESTONES
Furtney Achieves Academic Hat Trick
Michael Furtney, APR | Killeen Furtney Group Principal Michael Furtney, APR, Fellow PRSA is marking a series of academic milestones that are very unusual when achieved simultaneously.
After 45 years in the PR business, Michael recently earned his masters degree in strategic public relations from George Washington University. He earned the degree online and plans to attend the formal graduation exercise in Washington DC this May. For the second part of his academic hat trick, Michael has accepted a full-time position on the faculty at Pepperdine University, where he has taught PR and marketing as an adjunct instructor for the past five years. Finally, Michael is preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his graduation from USC, where he earned the third degree in public relations granted by the school (this may explain his proclivity to express encouragement via USC's iconic "Fight On!" battle cry).
After graduation in 1960, Michael began his career as a general assignment reporter for the Santa Ana (now Orange County) Register. His first job in public relations came five years later, when he accepted a position with Getty Oil.
Michael was accredited by PRSA in 1976 and remains very active in PR industry affairs. The Los Angeles Chapter benefits from his participation on the board of directors, and congratulates him on all of his many accomplishments!
