We are in a business that demands attention to detail. I like to say we may only make one mistake, it's just repeated many times.
In this issue we share a tale on an order gone bad and the importance of effective communication.
Lately I've had had some interesting experiences in my business dealings. There was the mug order with crooked imprints, a supplier who didn't honor an agreement. Followed by a web programmer who quoted two weeks for a project, but couldn't get it done in over two months.
But it's not all bad, a supplier, Numo impressed us with their integrity to honor their word, that is shared in the What! You Embroidered the Blue Cross Log in Red! story below. I witnessed the power of collaboration of some of my colleagues providing creative energy to secure a significant order. Good things are happening!
I also had the privilege of visiting with some folks in an intimate gathering at a historic mansion in Dana Point prior to the ASI Power Summit. It was hosted by my friends from Admints and Pro Towels. It's times like this that you appreciate the value of the relationships that are built through industry involvement.
As we approach Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for all life's experiences both good and bad. They provide me with lessons that make me aware of what truly makes good good business, that's built on a solid foundation.

Raise your hand if you like negative campaign ads.No hands? I'm not surprised. It's hard to imagine that anyone does. They're ugly, depressing and usually twist truths out of context. Sure, I know they're designed to put doubts in voters heads - like crafty litigators who say something inadmissible in court even if the judge tells the jury to ignore what they just heard. But isn't the objective in sales to get our customers to vote for us, not against our competitors?

You Embroidered the Blue Cross Logo in Red!

This is a disastrous tale. A distributor had an order 500 very expensive leather jackets for a special event. The paperwork was correct and had been approved by the client.
Somewhere in the process however, the decorator embroidered all the jackets with the cross in red. That would make sense really. We all are very familiar with the widely recognized Red Cross logo. The only problem was that this order was for another well-known organization, Blue Cross. Ouch! A mistake like that hurts. Our business is based on effective communication skills and being able to handle details. Despite our best efforts however, things happen. I like to say that we may make only one mistake; it's just repeated 500 times! |
