Don't Work Next Thursday Afternoon!

Excited Laptop on Beach

Those who have followed what we do know that FreePromoTips can occasionally share content that you don't normally see in business publications. This is what makes what we do unique.

In this issue, prompted by another "Kick in the Butt"  video with

Ron Baron we are taking this issue in a different direction.

Ron suggests you take next Thursday off!
Insane you say!  I know you are way too busy to do that!

I'm a self-professed workaholic, so I get it. I can think of all the reasons that doesn't make good business sense. Part of the growth process however is being open to change. Call it old age, burnout or just a revelation, but I am changing and re-evaluating what is REALLY important in my life.

Contrary to popular belief, studies show workaholic dads vs. involved with their family dads end up making about the same income by the time they're fifty and climbing as high on the corporate ladder. Why?  While workaholic dads may get a jump start because they're at the office more initially, their kids will end up struggling more with grades, social issues and confidence which will consume more of a father's time and resources down the road

How much better it is to do it right up front and spend the time with your kids they're craving for. It's not always easy to find the right balance, but keep battling for it.

In this issue, we share a another Ron Baron video and a story from All Pro Dad, which is a daily, family focused e-mail I receive. This article asks, Are You at Risk for Workaholisim?

Keeping with the leisure theme, we have a new product promotion from industry leading supplier, Fields. We invite you to take advantage of their FREE sample offer. This product is great for the upcoming outdoor activities companies will have and they will be appreciated by all who receive it.

Gotta go...I'm taking two hours off to take my son to his volleyball practice!

Make it a great day!

Are You At Risk for Workaholism?

Working on Toilet
When I was assigned the topic of workaholism for this column, I

knew immediately who to turn to.

My close friend just happens to be a successful senior executive for a Bay Area consulting firm. He's also a consummate workaholic and one of the savviest professionals I know.

"It's how you get ahead that matters," he says. "Working late, putting in the extra time, getting things done, making a difference.  It's the quickest way to the top."

For this story, he prefers to remain anonymous. Let's call him "Steve."  Despite all Steve's career and financial success, I wouldn't trade places with him. To me, the cost of all that achievement is too high, and the work/life balance is-to put it mildly-out of whack.
