DOES CHANGE FRIGHTEN YOU?

Stuffed Bear Closing EyesAt the PPAI North American Leadership Conference, there was an underlying discussion regarding Social Media.  "Ah!!"  is what you might be thinking while you are reading this.  Here we go again on the topic of Social Media.  Therein lies the discussion.

Are You a Hater, a Lover or a Fence Sitter
on the Value of Social Media?

Wherever you stand, one thing is certain,
this topic is not going away.  In PPAI's presentation of their Social Media Launchpad education series, they make this statement:  "One thing is undeniable...Social Media is the biggest buzz phrase to hit the business world since website."

My wife and I were discussing this subject, and she recalled a discussion she had with her boss many years ago.  As the sales  manager of a fairly large company, she was asked, "Do you think there is anything to this world wide web thing?"  Well, it seems there was something to it, and I believe the same thing can be said about Social MediaYou can embrace it or let the opportunities pass you by.

In this issue, we feature Mark Graham from Right Sleeve Promotional Design Agency sharing some thoughts on this.  Mark gets "it."  You can see him live at the The PPAI Expo where he is presenting a few education sessions.  Mark's presentation at the PPAI Leadership Conference received rave reviews.  Click here for a short video of these comments.  Attending this session is just one reason why you should not miss The PPAI Expo.

DON'T LET ANYTHING STOP YOU
FROM ATTENDING THE PPAI EXPO!
PPAI Expo_Horizontal_XFactor

This question was asked on LinkedIn and has
received a significant number of comments:
If you had to pick only one trade show to go
to per year, which one would it be and why?

"I've attended Expo since it moved to Vegas in 2000 and before that attended the Dallas PPAI show (showing my age here!). Expo combines not only almost three full days of being able to walk the floor, but also has an education day to keep up with what's new and the latest trends in the industry. Expo is by far the biggest show in our industry and brings suppliers and distributors together in an environment that is energized and a great way to kick of the New Year."                                                  Steve Woodburn, MAS

The question you need to ask yourself is: How will my business benefit from making the investment of time and money to go a trade show?  It's a good question and the answer lies in how serious you are about education...gaining a competitive advantage...and getting motivated about being successful in 2011.

SOCIAL MEDIA:
LOVERS, HATERS, FENCE SITTERS

By Mark Graham, Rightsleeve

I was fortunate enough to give a keynote presentation at PPAI's North American Leadership Conference on social media and its role within the promotional products industry. NALC attracts the leading distributors and suppliers from across North America, representing a bellwether for the industry.

Despite the enthusiasm from the audience for the content, I got the sense that the idea of using social media, both in general and particularly as a business tool that made some people very uncomfortable.

Social media means change on so many different levels that it's not surprising that some people have concerns.
For business people used to keeping information and relationships private, the open principles of social media are downright heretical.  On so many levels, the social enterprise is completely different from traditional business.  I wrote about this a few months ago.
