Following up on our recent PromoTip on spam e-mails in the industry, I received an eye opening e-mail from a supplier I have never heard of a couple of weeks ago.
This e-mail came in plain text, so it avoided my spam filters. Real life lessons are learned from real life experiences and there is something to be learned here. The message was troubling to me and stimulated the content for this PromoTip. Your comments on this topic are welcomed.
I'm REALLY tired of the negativity that is being presented today. I'll concede that we are in unprecedented economic times and industries, including ours are faced with many challenges. But is it constructive to live in the negative thoughts?
We've covered the economy with a variety of material and have made a conscious effort to be positive as we travel through this business season. Here are some great articles on this topic.
Below is the e-mail I received that got me fired up on negativity in the industry.
We want to know what you think?
Happy business building, Jeffrey Solomon, MAS, BCFFPT.com
SPECIAL NOTE: Our
industry is comprised of suppliers, distributors, reps, importers,
decorators...and others, but we all have one common thread. We are all independent, entrepreneurial
businesses. Our supplier
partners are spending considerable money to attend industry events when many suppliers are pulling in their marketing efforts and
not spending the money to travel. Please consider attending these fine
events in the great state of Texas! (See links to left.)

We Invite You to Comment on The E-Blast Below That Was Sent to Me:
We are in a difficult economic season, but should we seem desperate? How should we market in this economy? Would the e-mail below stimulate you to buy fortune cookies from this supplier?
This e-mail came in big type as shown. I'll take the liberty of adding editorial comments in red.
Dear Good Fortunes Customers. (I've never heard of this company and never done business with them.)
I don't need to tell you that times are tough and business is off all around. We're all feeling the effects! (Is everyone's business off?)
To my mind, now is the time to rise up together, in solidarity, to meet these financial challenges head on and prevail. (Sounds like a business revolution. How do you do that?)
In that light, Good Fortunes is offering you, our valued customers, (As noted before, I'm not a customer) a 25% discount on all orders until further notice*. Use the code (America) when you call or order from www.goodfortunes.com. (Check out our article The Price is Not Right! - Oh, they do sell direct to end users, but at higher prices.)
*discount does not apply to shipping costs.
Additionally, for anyone looking to make potentially a lot more money, I have aligned myself with a business opportunity that has massive financial upside potential. IF you'd like to 'get back' and 'get whole' financially call me or email me and I'll share it with you. (Sounds like an "interesting" opportunity to me. Would you like some Mona Vie with your cookies?)
Thank you for your business ongoing and I look forward to hearing from you regarding the business opportunity. (This business opportunity must REALLY be good!)
Wishing you Good Fortunes always,
Steve Staitman Chief Cookie Counselor, Good Fortunes steve@goodfortunes.com 818.595.1555 ext 210
OK...I've been hard on this e-blast and I apologize for it, but there is a value to using real world examples to make real world points. I'm sure this is a fine company and they are just doing what they feel is best to build their business. If you need cookies...give them a try! WHAT DO YOU THINK? LOVE THIS E-BLAST? HATE IT?
