Mackay and Johnson Return to SnugZ and It's Business as Usual
at this "Award Winning" Supplier!

April FoolsFor those who are not aware, FreePromoTips masterminded an  April 1st ruse announcing that affable industry leaders Charley Johnson and Brandon Mackay, co-owners of SnugZ USA, had abruptly left the company citing 'irreconcilable differences.'

If you missed it, click here.

We stated that the two men were seen recently at a New York hotel following the ASI Show engaged in a bitter argument."  Only FreePromoTips and a forward thinking, fun loving supplier like SnugZ could put off such a monumental PR stunt.

Thousands were shocked by the story. Many who delved deeper realized it was just an April Fool's hoax when they read that SnugZ's HR Manager, Harold, and Head of Security, Junior, would take over leadership of the company - Harold and Junior being Yorkshire Terriers who play a prominent role in SnugZ's corporate culture.

Gene Geiger, CEO of Geiger commented:
"The SnugZ April 1 "split" announcement was just perfect.  It was the sort of unexpected and creative approach that we have come to expect from SnugZ.  It was also just plain fun - a break from our reality that we all need.  Thanks, Brandon and Charley!"

While a handful of people were offended by the stunt and felt it was an "unnecessary waste of valuable time," most loved the joke and thought that it was great that our industry could have some fun. Some called it "the best marketing ever done in the industry."  You can view some of these comments at the bottom of the April Fools article and we invite you to contribute your thoughts on the joke.

Reaching the Industry
As we looked at ways to announce our "breaking news" story to the industry, I solicited colleagues who are actively engaged in social networking to help get the word out.  This was a calculated move to explore the power of this communication medium.  Clearly the method worked as news of this story spread like wildfire.

Recently we did a story on social networking. I asked the question, Do you Really Care What I am Doing? has a great video on What I Hate About Facebook.  I'm still trying to figure social networking out.

In this issue, Mike Schenker, from Custom InterSource LLC and past President of SAAGNY shares a few thoughts on social networking.  We invite others to contribute articles as we continue to cover the advantages to online media as it relates to building business.  If you have an article you would like to submit, please e-mail the article to me for publication consideration.

Happy business building,

Social Network Revealing 'Friends'
I Never Knew I Had.

Mike Schenker HeadshotAs is usually the case with my columns, I'm past deadline.  I either have a very patient, understanding editor, or a gullible one.  In an effort to maintain this extremely tenuous relationship, I'll opt for the former.  Oh, and add "handsome," too.

At least this time I've got a legitimate excuse for being late with my submission.  I've been working. Networking, in fact.  Okay...I've spent the better part of my day on Facebook.  It's work, I swear!  All of this social networking, I have to admit, has turned into a bit of an obsession.  Between Facebook, LinkedIn and Plaxo, I have more "friends" than I know what to do with.  And by "friends," I mean dozens of people whom I've never even met.
