Fun Fact About Our Ground Cocoa Supplier
Ever wondered how the buttery smooth chocolate you
eat each Valentine's Day makes its way into your
steaming hot chocolate? Here's the backstory on one
of our most indulgent hot drinks:
Cacao beans have a high fat content and
because of this do not combine easily with liquids
when ground to a powder. Ghiradelli's most important
contribution to the chocolate industry was the
accidental discovery of a way of making a virtually fat-
free powder.
A worker left some ground cacao beans hanging from
a hook in a cloth bag overnight. By the morning, the
floor was covered in cacao butter that had dripped
from
the bag. The ground chocolate left behind was almost
fat-free and was found to combine with liquids much
more smoothly. Ghiradelli's ever-popular Sweet
Ground Chocolate and Cocoa was developed from
this.

Our annual Chocolate Celebration continues
throughout February, so be sure to stop in and try a

or goody! We will be featuring special Chocolate Gift
Baskets, chocolate
covered pretzels, and, for a limited time, Chocolate
Pizza! You select the
toppings (coconut, hazelnuts, caramel sauce, fudge
sauce, Nutella spread, etc.) and we bake them to
perfection on a gourmet pizza pastry crust!
