Executive Director's Message
CHAMBER LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS
The Alhambra Chamber of Commerce board of directors, under the direction of newly installed President Valarie Gomez, will expand the involvement of the Governmental Affairs Committee early in the 2012-13 fiscal year. With a weakened economy and uncertainty regarding taxes and medical costs, the California business community will have a lot to be concerned about as they wind down a very difficult year and construct their business plans for 2013. As a result of these concerns, the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce will be looking to its Governmental Affairs Committee for input and recommendations as the Chamber formulates positions on a number of proposed legislative and ballot propositions.
The purpose of the Governmental Affairs Committee is to provide direction to the Chamber Board of Directors in the development of positions on legislation and other public policy issues. The Governmental Affairs Committee meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday, at 9 a.m. in the board room of the Chamber while the California legislature is in session. At most monthly meetings, the committee receives input from representatives from our local elected officials - U.S. House of Representatives, State Senate, State Assembly, County Board of Supervisors, and City Council. All Chamber members are welcome to participate, and their input is important in assisting the Chamber's development of positions on legislation and other public policy issues. When in session, meeting dates and times are posted on our community calendar and published in the Around Alhambra. If you are interested, please contact Irma Hernandez at the Chamber 626-282-8481 or ihernandez@alhambrachamber.org

Ambassador of the Month

Why Be an Ambassador?
 |
Jeanerette Legaux
West San Gabriel Valley
YMCA
|
I became an Ambassador through volunteering for an Alhambra Chamber event. I really enjoy being a part of this great city in this fashion because as an Ambassador, one of our duties at events is to meet and greet the guests. It is a pleasure and an honor meeting various city officials from our city as well as business owners and their teams and volunteer office holders in the community. This city has a real working sense of community, and I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of it.

John and Chris add Fosselman's touch to time honored
ice cream making process at Alhambra landmark
Fosselman's Ice Cream Co.
|
What's cool? Handmade Fosselman's Ice Cream!
There aren't many people who haven't visited Fosselman's Ice Cream Company and enjoyed Fosselman's handmade ice cream.
Family-owned Fosselman's, 1824 W. Main St., has received many awards and commendations from Los Angeles County, Los Angeles City, state of California officials, etc. It has been showcased on Huell Houser's TV show, and their ice cream has won the Los Angeles County Fair Gold Medal more times than can be counted. Fosselman's ice cream is featured in many restaurants in the Los Angeles area, and food critics have honored Fosselman's for offering the best ice cream.
On Fosselman's Web site, www.fosselmans.com, you will find listed
no less than 56 flavors of ice cream, 20 flavors of sherbets and sorbets, and 7 flavors of frozen yogurt. That's 83 reasons to visit Fosselman's.
Fosselman's features a traditional soda fountain. Ice cream favorites include Dutch chocolate, cookies & cream, pistachio, banana walnut, espresso, cookie dough, toffee, spumoni, green tea, rum raisin, and
some unusual flavors like taro and sweet corn. Seasonal flavors include pumpkin, egg nog, tutti fruitti, cinnamon, fresh peach, date, rootbeer, black walnut, licorice, and Irish coffee. You can even pick up a
half gallon to go.
Refreshing sherbet and sorbet flavors include crushed pineapple sherbet, green apple sorbet, strawberry sorbet, mango sorbet, and watermelon sorbet.
Fosselman's was founded in 1919 in Iowa by a young man in the soft drink business, Christian Anthony Fosselman. It became an Alhambra institution in 1941. It is under the leadership of Fosselman's grandsons, Chris and John, and the premium ice cream continues to be made with the same family recipes that use no preservatives. Their goal is to make the best ice cream possible. The results speak for themselves.
Fosselman's also features a variety of candy: chocolate malt balls, chocolate gummy bears, lemon drops, licorice pastis, gumballs, jawbreakers, jelly beans, and good, old-fashioned salt water taffy,
with flavors including peppermint, cinnamon, and licorice swirl.

For more information about Fosselman's Ice Cream Company,
phone 626-282-6533.
