Executive Director's Message
High Speed Rail Wrong Track to Recovery
California's governor and state legislature recently showed their lack
of fiscal constraint by approving plans for a controversial bullet train to alleviate the traffic congestion in the Central Valley. They further added to the state's serious fiscal problem by increasing the 2012-13 state
budget by $4.3 billion over last year's total of $91.3 billion.
In addition, California Governor Jerry Brown has also proposed a
tax hike designed to correct the state's huge 2011-12 $15.7 billion budget deficit. If approved in the November general election, this measure could be taking effect just as the Bush tax cuts and other federal tax breaks
are expiring thus creating a nearly $500 million federal tax increase for Californians and at a time when a economic stimulus is needed.
In a recent Sacramento Bee article, it was estimated that with the combination of the Bush tax cut expiration and the Obamacare surtax,
the capital gains tax rates could rise from 15% this year to 23.8% in 2013, and the tax on dividends would leap from 15% to 45%. In order to sway voters, the Brown ballot measure has promised that the tax will only affect those earning more than $250,000 and only affect the "rich." These "rich" are the same people who are small business owners and Chamber members, buy stocks, provide venture capital and create
much-needed jobs.
Despite the threat of cuts to education and public safety, many
observers think that California voters may very well reject the governor's tax hike proposal in November and demand a plan that will stimulate economic development and promote job growth in a state with a
record high unemployment rate.

Since I joined the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce and became an Ambassador,
I have more awareness of what is happening in the community. Being an Ambassador is a great way to meet people who do their business in the neighborhood. It is nice to hear the progress and updates of the city first hand from the movers and shakers of our community.
As an Ambassador, I represent the Alhambra Chamber at ribbon cuttings and help out at the Business to Business events. Both activities allow me to meet representatives of the businesses in and around the vicinity of Alhambra.

Feeldz specializes in sports apparel, school uniforms
If you are looking for sports apparel, sports equipment, shoes, or school uniforms, visit Feeldz Sports Apparel and Footwear, 401 E. Main St.
Feeldz, formerly known as R & C Apparel and Footwear, opened in April 2004 in Los Angeles. The store moved to Alhambra in 2010.
"We are a sports apparel and footwear store, with an emphasis on school uniforms," said owner Raul Campos. "We carry major brands such as Nike, Jordan, Vans, Converse, Uggs, and many others. Due to high demand in the sports department, Feeldz will transition into a store that will carry everything from baseball bats to camping equipment."
Feeldz has a second store in Monterey Park. "We are happy to be in the community and believe that within time, we will take care of all of our region's needs and wants," said Mr. Campos.
Feeldz offers a large assortment of school uniforms. Pricing on the uniforms starts around $10, with brands such as French Toast and Dickies. Mention this article, and get10% off your order for back-to-school purchases.
For more information, visit Feeldz's Web site at www.feeldz.com.
Feeldz has been a Chamber member since 2007.
