Caring during the Holiday Season

The holidays are right around the corner.  Once again, we'd like to help our Irvington students who may not be so fortunate this time of year.

For the December holidays, if you would like to help out, please purchase a gift card for groceries or clothing and hand it to one of the Irvington attendance clerks or counselors by Friday, December 16.  We accept gift cards of any amount; last year, amounts typically ranged between $10 and $25.

Target, Walmart, and grocery stores are best because they offer the most options (food, clothing, and toiletries).  Please no gift cards to restaurants.  Also, tax-deductible receipts for your donations are available from the office.

Irvington counselors will distribute gifts confidentially throughout the  month.   If you have any questions, please contact Veronica Serrano, Counseling Department Chair @ vserrano@fremont.k12.ca.us

Any leftover gift cards are used throughout the year for families in need. Thank you for continuing to help our Irvington families!

PTSA Update

Hello,

It is three months since the school has started and we at PTSA have been as busy as everyone else at the school. Just to recount our activities so far - we held two teacher appreciation events, helped with food at two social dances, hosted two parent information events (Navigating Irvington High School and Meet the Shadow Staff at IHS) and sponsored a Practice SAT test. We helped the school at MAZE, helped with parent donation letters, re-stocked the emergency bags for each classroom, and helped with the Great Shake Out drill. As a liaison of CA PTA, we informed the teachers, counselors, and nurse about the CA PTA CE scholarships. Our own 'Teacher Classroom Grant' was awarded to three IHS teachers. Our newly formed Technology committee is also taking shape. Please contact us if you would like to help this committee. Our webpage has a new look and it is now enabled with interactive forms to sign up for volunteering, for your suggestions and for members to update their contact information. Our attempt is to move towards functioning in a 'paperless' mode. In addition to our on-going 'School supplies' donation drive, in the month of November we have launched another donation drive to collect 'Used test prep and college prep books'. Please drop off your donations with your school counselor. In December, we are hosting a Parent information event 'Life after High-school'. We have many more events planned for the rest of the year. Stay tuned and visit our webpage (www.irvington.org/PTSA) for PTSA news and information about upcoming events.

As always, your active participation is crucial for our success in delivering the BEST to our students, our school and our community.

Thank you,

Ujjwala Gadgil

IHS PTSA President 2011-12

Moon Over Buffalo

Charlotte and George Hay, an acting couple are on tour in Buffalo in 1953 with a repertory consisting of Cyrano de Bergerac "revised, one nostril version" and Noel Coward's Private Lives. This backstage farce by the author of Lend Me a Tenor brought Carol Burnett back to Broadway. Fate has given these thespians one more shot at starring roles in The Scarlet Pimpernel. Will Charlotte appear or run off with their agent? Will George be sober enough to emote? Hilarious misunderstandings pile on madcap misadventures, in this valentine to Theatre Hams everywhere.

Playing December 4th at 2:00PM and December 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10 at 7:30PM

Ticket prices are...

IHS Alumni News
USU Football: Robert Turbin named WAC Player of the Year

Logan * With Utah State's 7-5 success this season come the accolades. And there were plenty of them to go around Monday.

Junior running back Robert Turbin was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, the first time an Aggie has won that award. As the 10th leading rusher in the country, Turbin led the way for several USU players who made the all-WAC team.

Senior linebacker Bobby Wagner was named first team all-league. Offensive linemen Tyler Larsen, a former star at Jordan High, and Phil Gapelu made the first-team offense. Senior defensive end Levi Koskan and senior tight end Tarren Lloyd, out of Davis High, were named second-team all-WAC.

But the day belonged to Turbin, who has dominated this season from USU's opening loss at Auburn, where he scored a pair of touchdowns. Turbin this season rushed for a career-high 1,416 yards and 19 TDs while playing in and starting every game a year removed from a torn ACL.

He ran for a season-high 208 yards in a 49-42 win over Idaho, scored four touchdowns against Colorado State and did it while taking just 40 percent of USU's total carries this year.

IHS Students Compete With Technology
Congratulations to David Keller and Eric Liu who competed in the U.S. Cyber Challenge. The competition consisted of three components; Networking, Operating Systems and System Administration.  Of more than 1200 entrants, they  placed 156 and 159 respectively in the national competition. As last minute entrants, they more than adequately represented themselves and IHS. Well done David and Eric!
