Servants on Wheels Ever Ready

Greetings!

Ah, Sweet April.

Spring has officially arrived and our gardens are brimming with new life (and a bit of last years rubble too, I suppose!). For some it's a time to sharpen up the mower blades and get out the roto-tiller as the lServants on Wheels Ever Readyawn and garden begins their annual draw on your time.  For those working on projects, there is a pretty good chance that gardening and yardwork will find their way into your work schedule too ! Everywhere we look there is new life bursting out - a constant and true reminder of the New Life we have in Christ.  As believers, we celebrate our Lord's Resurrection and his perfect gift of Life each and every day. But this month we share in a time of special reflection -Resurrection Sunday.  My prayer is that you were indeed renewed as you embraced the wonder of the Resurrection!   He is Risen!  He is Risen Indeed!!!

The Lighter side of SOWERS!

Not only are some projects very spiritually rewarding but most are a lot of fun.  Prescott Pines (AZ-124) is one of those.  Last April some of the women worked on costumes and a flag for the western town. Many afternoons were spent at thrift shops buying clothes for costumes, which is the favorite thing for most SOWER women. We loved the clothes and thought it would be fun to have a dress up day. When the staff heard about our plans they decided that we should have a 'flag raising' at the town. The last day of the project we all dressed up in the clothes....guys and gals. We were picked up by the hay wagon and driven to "Serenity". We were met by the sheriff and his men. They put us in jail right way. Then they let us out and we had the flag raising. After a tour through the town we were driven back home in the wagon. We were all wishing we could go back and be there for camp. The staff told us we could dress up and be members of the town.....but summer in AZ, don't think so. :)

Ride 'em Cowboy!
Servants on Wheels Ever ReadyYou just never know what you might run into at Church these days!  We were visiting a local Cowboy Church in Bandera, TX when a fellow road up on this steer. Steve Kosmoski (3047) couldn't resist the opportunity to give it a test drive - looks like he made it through the 8 second bell, doesn't it?

Dear Sam and Sally SOWER......
Servants on Wheels Ever Ready

 Dear Sam,

I'm hoping you can help me.  I'm a fairly new SOWER and I'm going to be the GL for the first time in May.  I've observed that there is quite a diversity in GL "styles" and I was wondering if you had some tips that could help me (and my wife) be good Group Leaders.  Thanks!

Just a Little Nervous

Dear Nervous,

You are so very right that each Group Leader does indeed have his/her own style! We're all different people, come from different backgrounds, and have different ways of doing things. There are lots of things that go into being a good GL, but I think one of the most important is FLEXIBILITY!  Just as SOWERs has guidelines that hopefully help a project run smoothly, so does the project itself have certain expectations.  For example, if the project host suggests a different work schedule to accommodate their work/break schedule, it only makes sense to go with what the hosts suggests.  Some hosts like to be very involved in delegating jobs and will work right alongside SOWERs while others give the GL a job list and are rarely heard from again.  The key to being an effective group leader is being able to work with either situation (or any one in between!), knowing it is not about how you (the GL) want it done, but how the project host wants it done. One of the true blessings of the SOWER Ministry is its diversity - both in the workers and in the projects.   The same premise of flexibility holds true for the Lady GL too!  There is no need for her to be the "Social Chairman" (unless she wants to be!).  As long as everyone is made to feel welcome and included, and the women are comfortable in their job assignments ,  the whole LGL process should run smoothly.   Make sure you check out the "GL Training DVD" .  It gives you a good basis for the structure of being a GL. (If you don't have one, just give the office a call!)   And don't forget the greatest resource there is - call a GL that you were blessed to be working with and ask him for some pointers.  Remember, we're all in this together!

The Logo Committee presented their findings at the March Board meeting and made a motion that the logo not be changed at this time. The vote was unanimous to keep the current basic logo design.

Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.
 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
     and with his wounds we are healed.
