Greetings!
It's hard to believe that the summer is almost over! Many of you have been busy at home this summer - maybe you've been tending your gardens, watching those grandkids play soccer and baseball, and helping out with VBS or other summer programs at your home church. Or maybe you've been busy caring for an aging parent or family member. Some have had the opportunity to work SOWER projects this summer and it's been exciting to see God at work at Christian Camps all across the country. One of the best parts of working summer projects is seeing these camps "in action".

Ziplines, water activities, crazy competitions and good Bible teaching. Quite a winning combination when it comes to kids and the Gospel.
Whatever you've been doing this summer (and since you're a SOWER, I know you've been busy!), whether it's on the homefront or at a SOWER project, I pray that you've been richly blessed.

Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove
Asheville, NC

The North Carolina mountains are a great place to spend the fall months with many beautiful sights to see and ideal weather. We have just added the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove as our newest project. The Cove is located just east of Asheville, NC and teaches people to know God better, know God's Word, build godly relationships, and help others know God. The project is available starting in October and the initial work involved will be installation of the four RV sites. If you're looking for an East Coast Fall project, three couples are needed to join us to get this project off the ground. We especially need those who have heavy equipment, plumbing or electrical experience to assist in this initial phase. Sewer hookups will not be available until services are installed. Contact the office as soon as possible if you would like to join us.

A Particular Quandary
Dear Fellow Lady Sowers, I have a dilemma and I am curious if you have encountered the same issue. When John and I are questioned by interested folks about our ministry, the man's involvement is easily summarized by "like Habitat but more restoration and maintenance". Well ladies, while I am blessed and glorified in my service through Sowers, how do I convey to a non-Sower the blessing and fellowship and just plain fun we have scrubbing toilets? Let's face it, our chores often don't have curb appeal. I have laughed, loved and been richly rewarded by every chore, but I seldom have the time allotment to convey the richness of the experience. Having now quantified the problem in my mind, I will endeavor to make an inventory of the various tasks completed since our first project in October 2005. First, I have made an executive decision not to mention the roach infested kitchen cleanings, the warehouses overrun with mice (which on occasion over ran the Sower ladies as well), bug infested potatoes, which I just came from peeling, laundry in the 'dungeon', snakes in the trees, and alligators in the bayou. I've had my head stuck in a cabinet and been chased by a cow across a field; I bet you could add a few to the list! Perhaps this is not the best starting point for the conversation. So, where do I go? On the other hand, is it fair to only mention the "dream jobs" - making valentine cards for the seniors, designing bulletin boards, child care, library work, tutoring and laundry in a clean fully-equipped facility (a truly wonderful chore). These are lovely and rewarding and definitely non- yucky jobs. In my experience, however, these 'dream chores' are few and far between and also not a faithful rendition of the typical ladies' experience. It is not my intention to diminish the glory of the blessing to be had from these lovely clean tasks.
However, my Sower repertoire is peopled with more gunk and grim, consisting mostly of food prep and pot scrubbing in kitchens followed with cleaning and mopping of same, painting indoors and out (not too bad just requires the right tools which are seldom at hand), yard and flower bed maintenance (same as painting), but mostly cleaning in all its derivatives. This little verb, 'cleaning', encompasses a wide spectrum of activities which I find unfailingly includes toilets. I imagine you also have spent some quality time with rubber gloves and toilets. How in the world do I convey the blessing and reward of bathroom cleaning with a group of Sower Ladies to an interested acquaintance? In the past I have simply said 'I have never had so much fun scrubbing toilets'. Unfortunately this quip is not always well received. On occasion the lady's eyes glaze over and that frozen smile is followed by a quick exit. I am in a quandary! How do I communicate candidly the chore and vividly the blessing? I desperately need your feedback.

Gillette, Wyoming
August 28-Sept. 2
In an effort to "get the word out" about the SOWER Ministry, Don & Priscilla Schager (#2961) are coordinating an information booth at the upcoming Escapees Escapade in Gillette, Wyoming. They'll be answering questions, handing out brochures and meeting (we pray!) prospective Servants on Wheels! They're excited about the opporunity - let's join them in praying for a blessed week and that the Lord will bring many Believers to their booth.
Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Matthew 9:38

Next Month - or Next Year.....
Are you tired of the noise and rush of the urban life? Would you like to wake in the morning to the cooing of the doves as the sun rises over the horizon? Sunshine Bible Academy (SD-495) was recently added to the SOWER list of worthy causes. There is enough work here to keep a crew busy for a good while. The family atmosphere is wonderful and the plains of South Dakota are beautiful. Right now there are vast fields of wheat being harvested. The Wakeman's are the second Sower couple to serve here and the school welcomes all those who would like the peace and solitude and rewarding work available here. Sunshine Bible Academy is located in Miller, SD, has spots available for 6 SOWER couples and is open for workers in August and September.

And while you're up that way, Cedar Canyon Wesleyan Camp (SD-413) in Rapid City has 3 SOWER spots and takes SOWERs from April to October!
