Greetings!
As we approach the end of Summer, I must say that this year has flown by! It was great to see everyone at our Half Year Membership Drive. We had several new faces, gained some new excited members, and had an opportunity for those who had not renewed to do so. This month we have a seminar on RESPA and our Bylaws Committee has been working hard on drafting amendments for your review in the coming weeks. We are looking forward to your feedback. Elections are also on the horizon and should commence mid-October. If you have not thought about getting involved, I highly recommend it. For those who want to start off slow, we have numerous committees for people of all backgrounds. Use your strengths to help grow CFPA! We will be hosting a Membership Meeting/Meet & Greet at Maxine's On Shine on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 from 5:30p-7:30p. CFPA's Executive Committee and Board of Directors are looking forward to seeing you and answering any questions you may have.
We are gearing up our annual Support the Troops project. Please see below for drop off locations and more will be blasted through Yahoo Groups and posted on the website throughout the week. Items can be dropped off beginning September 10, 2012 through October 25, 2012 when we will host our Halloween mixer at Ember (more details to come). If you have family members who are currently serving and will be through the holidays please email me at President@cfpainc.org with "Support the Troops" in the subject line. Our packing party will be on November 3, 2012 at Orange Legal so SAVE THE DATE. It is a fun and rewarding time. More information will be provided as the date gets closer. We appreciate All Florida Investigations & Forensic Services, Inc.'s sponsorship of our newsletter this month and as a supportive Patron Member of CFPA. If you wish to know more about All Florida Investigations & Forensic Services, Inc., please click on the link to their web site. Have a great month! Let us hear from you! I am pleased to announce that the president of NALA, Ann Atkinson, ACP, has appointed me to a two year term on the Continuing Education Council. All NALA continuing education programs are overseen by NALA's Continuing Education Council. The council is composed entirely of active members of NALA. The council also works with Headquarters staff, professional writers, and others in planning and developing educational programs. The chair of the Continuing Education Council is a member of the NALA Board of Directors. Please let me know if you have any suggestions regarding continuing education that I can pass on to NALA. I am currently working on the NALA Campus Live! subcommittee.
In addition to the wonderful scholarships that CFPA is offering for CP, ACP and students, NALA has a scholarship designed to recognize outstanding professional achievement and excellence in the legal field. Delmar Cengage Learning has partnered with NALA to provide a scholarship award certificate, CP Review Manual, CLA/CP Study Guide and Mock Examination and application fee for the CP. The nominee must meet the eligibility requirements for the CP exam, be currently working as a paralegal (and worked as a paralegal for 2 years), be nominated by a colleague in a supervisory role and take the examination within 9 months of receiving the scholarship award. The submission deadline will be April 1, 2013. To learn more or submit a nomination, go to www.cengage.com/community/paralegal.

Devastating Threat of Fraud ...

Devastating Threat of Fraud
By
John M. Gaspar, B.S. M.S., M.M.B.A, C.F.E., CST
In America today we face a devastating threat. This threat has injured millions of people, hundreds of thousands of businesses and affects the price points of almost everything we buy. This menace to society has both civil and criminal components and can lead to the devastation and destruction of families, companies, cities and other government subdivisions. The threat is fraud. Fraud is the intentional systematic process to deceive and or misrepresentation that can deprive someone (person, company, government) of something of value that they had a legal right to, usually United States Currency and/or property. It involves tricky and usually as scheme then fraud can rear its ugly head as part of a Ponzi scheme, identity theft, cyber fraud, street fraud, intellectual property, financial fraud and various other forms of this devastating epidemic that are not mentioned in this article. The 21st Century Criminologist ...

Criminology - The 21st Century Criminologist BY: Ronald F. Worst - Criminologist (Security Expert & Fraud Examiner)
We are often reminded of the sudden impact of financial crimes, safety and security, and the U.S. Justice System has on our internal psyche. The majority of us are concerned about becoming victims of frauds and scams, assaults and batteries, or having our homes burglarized. We're also intrigued and fascinated by the news media, social media, and newspapers covering these crimes involving celebrity figures and highly publicized cases of all types. In addition, we are also disgusted and outraged by law enforcement misconduct and negligence upon U.S. citizens.
