Greetings!
As we wrap up the first quarter of 2012 and embark on the second quarter of the year, I just want to say thank you to all of our members, friends, and family who have supported our first quarter charity-Second Harvest Food Bank. We were able to make three drops to the food bank and will also provide them with a monetary donation thanks to all who bought raffle tickets at either our CLE seminars or the Joint JA mixer. We had our first all day seminar this past weekend and it was a HUGE success thanks to all of you. As we head into Spring at full speed, please take a few moments to check out CFPA's calendar posted on our website for all the upcoming events. Our Second Quarter Charity is the "Coalition for the Homeless". I am so excited about this project. I encourage you to come out and bring your children to these projects. We will be serving breakfast in the Center for Women and Families on a few Saturdays during this quarter. Stayed tuned for dates and contact our volunteer coordinator if you are interested in volunteering at volunteers@cfpainc.org. It is a great lesson not only to children but to each of us to count our blessings and help to build up those around you who are struggling. We will be accepting monetary donations and items that we can provide to the Coalition to help assist those who use the facility. I am very happy to announce our "Volunteer Corner" which will be a new addition to our newsletter. Although we as an organization have charities that we support quarterly, we are also aware that our members work with more than just the charities designated by CFPA. Therefore, if you have any charitable organizations, fundraisers, or would simply like to put a team together to support a charity in a walk/run we are providing you an opportunity to share it with us. It does not matter how you help your community or what organizations you are more inclined to donate your time, what matters is that you give and we want to support you. If you have any events or fundraisers you support and would like to have something posted, please provide those to me at President@cfpainc.org or Editor@cfpainc.org and we will add them to our volunteer corner. Our Bylaws Committee is working hard on revising and updating our current Bylaws. Please look for information to be sent out as we finish up working on these Bylaws revisions and gear up for voting this quarter. If you are planning to take the CP Examination in May, please register now as the deadline is approaching. Our partnership with ITT Technical Institute has been a tremendous success and if you have not yet taken advantage of this deal to become Certified, now is a great opportunity. For more information on how to become Certified, please contact Nancy Jordhal at Nalaliaison@cfpainc.org. If you have questions regarding testing center registration, please contact Testing@cfpainc.org. I hope you have enjoyed our CLE courses thus far. The CLE committee has been working hard to bring you CLE courses that are relevant to you and that will help you stay up to date and keep those skills refreshed! Stay tuned for April's seminar on Technology and Medical Presentations. We appreciate The Presentation Group's sponsorship of our newsletter this month and as a supportive Patron Member of CFPA. If you wish to know more about The Presentation Group, please click on their logo below which is linked to their web site. Have a great month! I look forward to seeing each of you! NALA News ...
NALA has posted information on its website regarding the annual convention which will be held from July 25-28, 2012 at the Hilton Omaha Downtown in Omaha, Nebraska. "NALAOMAHA" should be another wonderful time. It would be great to have a big turnout from CFPA at the convention. I know that I always learn a lot professionally and personally whenever I attend a convention. It is a great resource. This year will once again be an "All Institute" format in the areas of Bankruptcy, e-Discovery, Essential Skills, Family Law, Personal Injury or Real Estate.
Just a reminder that NALA is searching for NALA members, with a CP credential and experience in local or state paralegal associations and/or community non-profit organizations to submit applications for the LEAP program. There is no enrollment fee for the LEAP program. The deadline to apply is May 15, 2012. I participated in the LEAP program from 2010-2011 and found it to be very worthwhile. Please see me with any questions.
NALA Campus Live provides real time CLE online with live presentations via your computer and a toll-free phone call. The Spring Program of presentations runs through May 2012 and includes courses on Social Media Policies and Legal Issues, Ethics and Movies, Time Management, Dealing with Foreign Nationals, Trademark Prosecution and a lot of other interesting topics. Check out www.nala.org/onlineed.aspx for more information.
Congratulations to the following Central Florida area paralegals who recently obtained their CP designation following the January 2012 examination: Elizabeth Buck, CP from Titusville, Jennifer Coveny, CP from Lakeland, Linda S. Goettsche, CP from Melbourne, Elizabeth A. Hoornstra, CP from St. Cloud, Tomas Jonkaitis, CP from Altamonte Springs, Hope C. Lutz, CP from Cocoa, Marvin R. Rannells, CP from Sanford, and Kelly J. Wright, CP from Orlando. As of March 2012, there are 16,900 CPs in the world. Florida has 4,299 (the most of any state). If you are not one of Florida's 4,299 CPs and you are interested in learning more about becoming a CP, please let me know.
For your future planning purposes, NALA's 2013 convention will be July 24-27 in Portland, Oregon.
