Greetings!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend celebrating the 235th anniversary of our Independence. Grilling hamburgers and hotdogs, playing volleyball or baseball and watching amazing fireworks are just a few traditions we enjoy on the Fourth of July. We live in such an amazing country in which every one of us has the right to ". . . . Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of the Happiness . . ." To remember those who continue to protect these unalienable rights on our shores as well as overseas, we will be collecting items for our third quarter charity, Support the Troops. The collection drive will occur now through the end of September. See additional information below as to how you can help. Our committees have been working hard to prepare a smokin' July for our members. First, bring your business cards and meet your fellow colleagues at the next luncheon networking opportunity scheduled for July 13th. Second, meet us for our mixer and half year membership drive on July 20th at The Abbey. Bring your co-workers to enjoy the evening learning more about its members and the benefits of CFPA. Third, we have a two-hour CLE on Collaborative Divorce: What Is It and How Does it Differ from Traditional Dissolution? Learn more about each of these events below. On July 27th through July 30th, Nancy Jordahl, CP, FRP, NALA Liaison and Peonca Grier, CP, FRP, Vice President/President-Elect, will be attending the 36th Annual NALA Convention held in Plano, Texas, on behalf of CPFA. If you are planning to attend this event, say hello to Nancy and Peonca. Have you noticed our amazing web site? If not, you need to take a few moments to review resources available at your fingertips. Please note the "links" button. Our web master, Anne Hughes, ACP, FCP, FRP, has accumulated a variety of links to connect to research web sites, governmental web sites, paralegal blogs and forms for the different areas of law. If you would like to see a link added, please scroll to the bottom of the page and provide the link information to Anne at webmaster@cfpainc.org. Also, please note our CFPA feedback poll button. We would love to know if you are a NALA member. The survey will take approximately one minute to complete. We appreciate MJC Reporting, Inc.'s sponsorship of our newsletter this month. If you wish to know more about MJC Reporting, please click on the link to their web site. Sincerely, Natalie F. Colon, CP, FRP Certified Paralegal/Florida Registered Paralegal CFPA President - 2011 |

CFPA's 3rd Quarter Charity -
Support the Troops -2011
JULY THROUGH SEPTEMBER COLLECTION DRIVE
I am proud to know that Support the Troops has become a yearly CFPA event. This year it is our third quarter charity. Since 2007, we have been able to supply service members with a variety of wish list items. Last year's event was one of the largest shipments with 33 flat rate boxes filled with snacks, phone cards, hygiene products and magazines. These items were sent to three of our overseas service members. This year we continue the tradition and we hope to make it bigger. Our collection drive will be from July through the end of September and there are a variety of ways you can help. You can:
(1) Collect items on the attached wish list; and/or
(2) Have your office be a collection drop-off site; and/or,
(3) Provide a monetary donation for supplies or postage; and/or
(4) Sign up for Pack-Up Day.
If your office is a collection drop-off site, please e-mail me your location and we will post it on the CFPA web site and include in the next newsletter. If you or your office prefers to make a monetary donation, please mail the donation with instructions that the amount be specifically used for Support the Troops (wish list items and/or postage) to: Support the Troops, c/o CFPA, Post Office Box 1107, Orlando, Florida 32802.
In late August or early September, we will be providing additional information on the date, time and location of "Pack-Up Day". On this day we package all collected items, separate the items according to type and package items in the mailing boxes for delivery to the Post Office.
We are also collecting names, addresses and photos of service members who will be the recipients of our collection drive. Please send information to president@cfpainc.org along with any short stories so that we may share with our members. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

CFPA's Annual CP Review Course
CFPA's 2011 Certified Paralegal ("CP") Exam Review Course is scheduled to run each Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 pm beginning August 24 - October 19, 2011. Registration forms and course schedule will be available on CFPA's website in the near future. Like last year, this year's course will be presented at Keiser University located at 5600 Lake Underhill Rd. in Orlando. The testing periods through NALA are as follows: September 1-30 January 1-31 May 1-31 As of the Fall of 2010, NALA changed the CP Exam to computer based testing so there are new procedures that you NEED to be aware of (i.e. fees now being charged by the approved ACT Testing Centers). Please review the booklet at the link below:
New CP Testing Procedures Info Also NALA has updated the Certified Paralegal Exam Review Manual , Third Edition, so if you have the old blue colored book, it is highly suggested that you purchase the new book as the CP Exam will be coming from this material. Below is a link to NALA's suggested helpful publications for studying for the exam: CP Exam Study Materials If you are planning to take the CFPA CP Review Course we request that you have the CP Exam Review Manual, Third Edition, as part of your required homework will be to read the sections to be covered prior to each class. Update on the Habitat for Humanity Project
CFPA participated in a build with Habitat for Humanity Orlando on Saturday, July 2, 2011. On July 2nd, CFPA's first Habitat for Humanity Build began bright and early at the Stag Horn Villas located in Orlando, Florida. Stag Horn Villas is a planned 58-townhome community and is Habitat's first multifamily development. Families have moved into the six completed buildings and a seventh building is currently planned for construction.
Stag Horn Villas As our members began to register for the build, our sponsors, Rita G. Meyer and her husband, of All Good Reporters and All Good Vending, began to set up our drinks to quench our thirst in the forecast high of 90 degree heat. Members split up into groups under the guidance of veteran Habitat crew members to assist in mowing, edging and picking up yard waste, cleaning the units, setting up the units with furniture and fencing the next area for the next building. During the build, we also became familiar with some Habitat members who will eventually become owners of a unit one day. Lunch was a nice break and sponsored by First Choice Reporting, who also stayed for the build. Heather Lane and Tonya Mostow made sure that all CFPA volunteers, all crew members and all future owners on the build received a lunch box from Jason's Deli. Everyone worked so hard and diligently that our members were able to complete Habitat's long list of "TO DO" items in a timely manner. Habitat crew members expressed their gratitude but I think we owe them a huge Thank You for being a part of a great organization.
Unit at Stag Horn On behalf of CFPA, I would also like to thank: Each and every individual (CFPA Members, family members and friends). First Choice Reporting for sponsoring lunch. All Good Reporters/All Good Vending for drinks and recycle carry bags. Orange Reporting for chapsticks. Dean, Ringers, Morgan & Lawton, P.A. for goodie bags and paper pads. Greenberg Traurig, P.A. for safety glasses and gloves.
Taking a Quick Break: From Left to Right: Bernard, Alison Presley, Todd, and Karen Davis of First Choice Reporting, Natalie Colon, CFPA President - 2011, Nancy Jordahl, NALA Liaison, Jeanette Colon, Mary Kate Lally, Marisa Green, CLE Chair, David Monge, and Allyson Miller. The response to this build was overwhelming and signifies our strength in numbers to help a wonderful cause to build a better community for everyone. (See Additional Photos on our Facebook page). |
