Greetings!
May was an amazing month for CFPA and it's members. We hope you enjoyed the free toast to celebrate Paralegal Week. Brooke Patterson, Mayor Dyer's representative and Paralegal with the City of Orlando, read the City's Proclamation followed by a toast from John Starks. The event was sponsored and attended by Pam Hardy and Linda Dyer of MJC Reporting.

Brooke Patterson - Mayor Dyer's Office John Starks - CFPA BOD Chair This event was followed by our mixer with the Orange County Judicial Assistants. Sponsored by Juris Imaging & Graphics, there was a wonderful turnout by both the Judicial Assistants and our members. We plan to have another event with them in the future and we will keep you posted. If you wanted to know the ins and outs of mediation, please plan on attending the primer mediation seminar being held at Upchurch, Watson, White & Max on June 22nd. We, again, appreciate Orange Reporting's sponsorship of our seminars. If mediation does not work out, you may need to review the article on the nine critical steps of trial preparation. We have more information below on our Habitat for Humanity build scheduled for Saturday, July 2nd, and I hope to see you there! We appreciate Pro Serv's sponsorship of our newsletter this month. CFPA's 2nd Quarter Charity - Habitat For Humanity
We are excited about our build with Habitat for Humanity Orlando. Our build day is scheduled for Saturday, July 2nd, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The location will be announced two weeks before the build date and will be located in the Orlando area. We currently have eighteen participants registered for the build and we are allowed up to thirty-five. If you are interested in participating in the building, please provide your name, your T-shirt size and the proper waiver to Peonca Grier at vicepresident@cfpainc.org. If you have a minor who needs community service hours, please note that the minimum age is 16 years old. A separate waiver is required for minors and the minor must be accompanied by a CFPA Member. If you are unable to volunteer on that date but would like to participate, donations are also welcome. You may pay via Pay Pal on our web site.
Here are a few details about the build. No experience is necessary. Everyone must wear closed toe shoes (athletic shoes or boots are best, no ballet slippers, heels, clogs, sandals, etc...) and comfortable clothes that they don't mind getting dirty. You will need to check-in from 8:00-8:30 am and work from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Please arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. which is when Habitat will go over the safety and job task information.
Lunch and drinks will be provided to all who attend the build.
Habitat has started a "Change Challenge" where they ask volunteers to donate their spare change to Habitat. The goal is to collect enough money to sponsor a home! Instead of letting those extra coins or few dollars stay in your car cup holder or in-between the couch cushions, bring them to the Habitat worksite where it can do the most good helping to fund a home for a family in need. During check-in, Habitat will have the Change Challenge donation can out and there will be a moment during circle time that they will ask if anyone would like to donate. Every penny helps so bring your change!
We appreciate the following Patron Members who are sponsoring our build to date: Orange Reporting, All Good Reporters, and First Choice Reporting. Additional sponsors are welcome. If you are interested in helping sponsor the build, please contact president@cfpainc.org.

CFPA's Annual CP Review Course
CFPA's 2011 Certified Paralegal ("CP") Exam Review Course is scheduled to run each Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 pm beginning August 24 - October 19, 2011. Registration forms and course schedule will be available on CFPA's website in the near future. Like last year, this year's course will be presented at Keiser University located at 5600 Lake Underhill Rd. in Orlando. The testing periods through NALA are as follows: September 1-30 January 1-31 May 1-31 As of the Fall of 2010, NALA changed the CP Exam to computer based testing so there are new procedures that you NEED to be aware of (i.e. fees now being charged by the approved ACT Testing Centers). Please review the booklet at the link below:
New CP Testing Procedures Info Also NALA has updated the Certified Paralegal Exam Review Manual , Third Edition, so if you have the old blue colored book, it is highly suggested that you purchase the new book as the CP Exam will be coming from this material. Below is a link to NALA's suggested helpful publications for studying for the exam: CP Exam Study Materials If you are planning to take the CFPA CP Review Course we request that you have the CP Exam Review Manual, Third Edition, as part of your required homework will be to read the sections to be covered prior to each class. If you have any questions, please contact CFPA Review Course Coordinators, Anne Hughes, ACP, FCP, FRP or Cassie Snyder, CP, FRP at ReviewCourse@cfpainc.org. |
