Greetings!
If you missed last months seminars, no worries. This month we have a couple of seminars scheduled and also have a luncheon networking opportunity. Our CLE Committee has been able to arrange an ethics seminar for 1.5 CLE credits. Please register as soon as you can as the seminar is scheduled early this month. Our Review Course Committee has scheduled a "Super Saturday" short course for those who have been studying for the CP exam. Our next networking opportunity is also coming up. Please bring your business card, great conversation and ideas to share with other members. I hope to see some of you at the Olive Garden in Maitland.
As some of you may be aware, there is some interesting things happening in the areas of mandatory registration and the introduction of house and senate bills for paralegal licensure. We have provided this information for your review and comment. See below for more information. Please note the member incentive at the end of this newsletter.
Sincerely, Natalie F. Colon, CP, FRP Certified Paralegal/Florida Registered Paralegal CFPA President - 2011 |

Mandatory Registration and Licensure Legislation
In order to keep our members apprised of the developments with the the voluntary aspect of Rule 20, the Florida Bar formed a Special Committee to research the prospect of making Rule 20 a mandatory registration rather than voluntary. Recently, that Special Committee has filed a report to the Florida Bar which was considered at the Board of Governor's meeting in Orlando on March 25, 2011. See the full report below: Special Committee Report There has been much discussion and several heated debates on various paralegal blogs and forums on the Florida Alliance of Paralegal Association's pursuit of mandatory licensing of Florida paralegals and the two pieces of legislation that were filed earlier this month, House of Representatives Bill HB 1149 and Senate Bill SB 1612. Click below to review these Bills: House Bill 1149 Senate Bill 1612 There are various opinions for and against mandatory licensure and the filing of HB 1149 and SB 1612. You can see some more information on this on CFPA's website by clicking on the following link: http://cfpainc.org/paralegalregulation.html The above is provided for informational and educational purposes only. CFPA encourages each individual to form to his/her own opinions regarding licensing, registration, and/or certification of paralegals in the State of Florida and respond accordingly.

CFPA encourages its members to make their own opinions known , whether you are for it or against it, to the legislators who will be voting on the issue of paralegal licensing.
