Curriculum: Online Text
http://esa-ca.switchedononline11.com/  Here is the Scope and Sequence: http://media.glnsrv.com/pdf/products/sch_scope_and_sequence/soo/SOOSP1.pdf   It will cost each student $72 - It is a full Spanish 1 program.  If your student has already taken Spanish 1 and has not already used this program, you could consider using this version as his/her Spanish II.  My daughter is taking Spanish II at the college and this Spanish curriculum  would be adequate to mark this year as Spanish II (Pam's note).  I didn't see that they got very far in the tenses at VC.

Homework:
1.       Monday:2 lessons
2.       Tuesday:2 lessons
3.       Wednesday:2 lessons
4.       Thursday: review flash cards and get ready for Class Day

Keep in mind; there is one back-to-back week this next year.  Unfortunately, you will need to double what you see here to keep up.  Lessons can take between 25-45 minutes to complete.

Materials / Fees: You will need to write your check to El Shaddai Academy for this online curriculum. $72 during the summer or while enrolling your students for 2011-2012

Description:Students will need to be careful to stay up-to-date with their curriculum.  Either Mrs. Handlin or Mrs. Cosio will be grading throughout the year.  At the beginning of each module (10 modules with midterm and final) students will need to make a set of flash cards to use during the module for enhanced memory of vocabulary words.  At the end of the year, students who have their 10 stacks of flash cards will be invited to go out to a Mexican restaurant to practice their Spanish in the real world.  There is a little bit of geography in that students will learn where all the Spanish speaking countries are.  Sophie and Charlie take excursions throughout these countries.

This is a strong Spanish program.  So, consider whether your 8th grader can handle the rigor.  For the first time, we are offering a Spanish 1.  Using this online version will enable the teachers to see whether the students are understanding and progressing with the Spanish language. Not everyone feels comfortable with online curriculum.  However, this is one way to get that extra help you need at home.  The teachers will check in daily on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays to see how the students are doing.

Standards:
                Online Grade- 75%
Class Day- 10% - coming in prepared with materials/sample of projects (proyectos) submitted online and/or memorizations of dialogues (enthusiasm is a plus)
Flash Cards- 10% having 5 sets completed at the end of each semester totaling 10 for the whole year - Parents verify that students have shuffled through the stack several times (working on idea for verification)
                Geography Folder/Booklet- 5% keeping up-to-date with mapping

We've been working on a tentative syllabus.  You can look here to see our progress.
