Students will also read their choice of a variety of whole books to enhance their studies.
Homework: Approximately 2.5 - 5 hours per week, reading and some writing.
Materials / Fees: Student will be expected to purchase the text book, though I will try to put together as many as I can at a discount. I will also allow students to read biographies or historical fiction from my own collection of books, or from the Public Library.
Description: The student will learn about American History following the Civil War. By reading from a textbook and from various whole books, the student will learn of the country's various eras including that of the Industrial Age, World Wars, etc. Some writing will be expected, including essays. Several presentations will be assigned as book reports.
Standards: The student will receive a passing grade after having attended most class periods, participated in class discussion, and having done the reading and writing assigned. I will suggest a letter grade to the parent at the end of each semester, with most consideration given to completion of and participation in all assigned activities.
