Description: Learn the basics of cake decorating including learning how to make various types of frostings including whipped frostings, buttercreams, cream cheese, coconut pecan, and ganache, how to tint frostings, techniques for frosting a cake including "dirty icing", introduction to piping skills-such as lettering, stars, swirls, scrolls, shells, cornelli, and borders. We will also be learning some quick and easy tips to "dress up" cakes using chocolate shavings and chocolate candy molds, fruit, and ribbons and more. Students will learn about the different tools, practices and helpful hints used for baking, frosting and decorating cakes. There will be hand outs with recipes, techniques and practice sheets for piping at home. The first class of each month the students will learn and practice two or more techniques that they will then work on at home. The second class of the month the students will use their practiced skills to frost and decorate a real cake (provided by the teacher)!
Final Project: Students will bake, frost and decorate a cake of their own design using 4 or more techniques learned throughout the year and bring into final class.
