Curriculum: Curriculum: Our main textbook is His California Story by Lesha Myers: http://www.cameron-publishing.com/index_files/Page385.htm We will also be reading the following fictional novels that illustrate various periods of California History: Island of the Blue Dolphin by Scott O'Dell; Zia, also by O'Dell; Jed Smith: Trailblazer of the West, by Frank Latham; By the Great Horn Spoon, by Sid Fleischman; and Patty Reed's Doll, by Rachel K. Laurgaard and Elizabeth Sykes Michaels.
Homework: Homework: Weekly reading assignments and various projects as outlined below. Parents may need to read the material to their students.
Materials / Fees: Materials Fees: $5 or $10 per child (TBD).
Description: Course Description: While this class is academic in nature, the projects and in-class assignments are a blast!
Projects include a salt-dough (or cookie) map, building a mission, a CA County report and a CA Park report.
In class games may include Jeopardy, Around the World, Family Feud, Bingo and Who Am I?
There will probably be monthly online quizzes and/or a mid-term exam.
Course Standards: Completion of reading assignments and projects as well as class participation will earn each student an outstanding. A good attitude and class participation is a must! If your child is a reluctant reader s/he may not enjoy this class.
