Curriculum: Individual books for each Christian hero we learn about. Many

are in the "Heroes then and now" series or the "Trailblazer" series.

Homework: reading 2-3 chapters each week and a project (non-traditional book

report)  for each book

Description: We will be reading individual books on the following famous

Christian heroes:  Harriet Tubman, Corrie Ten Boom, George Washington

Carver, Samuel Morris, Francis Scott Key, C.S. Lewis,and George Mueller.

During our class time we will discuss the book we are reading as well as

work on non-traditional book reports. We will make diagrams, mobiles,

posters, and research some on the internet. The non-traditional book report

is to give the student a "real life" experience in connection with the

famous person we are learning about. We will include some videos as well in

order to add another dimension to our class. The main goal is to be inspired

by these amazing people, and to open up biographies as a fun genre.

Standards: Read 4 or 5 chapters in the assigned biography before coming to

class. Reading level will not be difficult. Most books are around 5th grade

level reading. Be ready to discuss books in class and share ideas. Be

willing to try different types of projects as a book report. Each student

will be responsible for obtaining their own copy of the books we are

reading. Estimated cost for used books is $25-$30. Est. cost for new books

$40-50.
