Curriculum: Apologia Physical Science, 1st or 2nd ed.: Text, Key, and Cd-rom Companion (optional, but recommended). Homework: 4 - 5 hours of study each week Materials Fees: A small fee for each student, approximately $5.00 for all lab materials. Lab supplies will be on-hand. Some household items will be requested such as; plastic liter bottles. Course Description: From Apologia, "The course discusses such topics as the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, weather, the structure of the earth, environmentalism, the physics of motion, Newton's Laws, gravity, and astrophysics. The author especially concentrates on the myths generated by the hysterical environmentalist movement. There are many hands-on experiments to do, and they all use household chemicals and supplies. It is an excellent course to prepare students for a college-prep high school science curriculum." Course Standards: Apologia divides their curriculum into 16 different modules, each readily completed within 2 weeks. We will cover one module per Groups session. The Group class will focus on performing the labs. Students must complete assigned homework for each class; prepare lab sheets for assigned experiments; participate in labs during class and complete lab reports by citing observations and conclusions. Completion of pre-algebra is recommended. The use of an orderly notebook is essential to this class. Instructions will be handed out prior to first day of class.Notebook 25%
