Curriculum: Drawing with Children by Mona Brookes, Developing Motor Skills in Art by Rod and Staff, Art with a Purpose by Rod and Staff
Homework: Occasionally something we worked on will come home. Reviewing the 5 elements of shape would be helpful but not required. Majority of work is done in class.
Materials / Fees: All will be provided. I will hold onto special Art projects until finished in May.
Description: An introduction to art basics: Drawing, coloring, cutting and perspective. We will spend several weeks practicing different drawing exercises, composition, shading, still life and positive and negative space, etc. Students will also learn the 5 basic elements of shape based on the book "Drawing with Children" by Mona Brookes. We will also read about famous artists from the past (Rembrandt, Da Vinci, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Van Gough, Michaelangelo) which will help broaden their awareness of art appreciation. My goal is for each student to have at least 2 finished masterpieces matted and ready to turn into the Ventura County Fair next summer and to gain confidence in displaying their work.
Grading: All art receives an "A". Grading will be based on attitude, attentiveness and behavior.
