Hughbert

We had to say goodbye to our sweet Hughbert. He was in ICU, but his kidneys shut down and there was nothing the vet could do to save him. Here is a message from his foster mommy Morgan, "Hughbert and I both thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I know he is so much better now. In this photo he is sleeping on my pillow even though he has the whole couch, guarding his hoof that he just stole from his sheltie brother." Rest in peace dear Hughbert. We miss you so very much.

The Fourth of July is a fun time to be with family and friends. Some people take their dogs with them to picnics and parades, but we want to remind you that dogs should never be near fireworks .

Many dogs react unpredictably to the sound of fireworks. We have heard of pugs getting lost because they escaped from their yards. One poor pug ran off in terror when his owner took him to a fireworks show and was never found.

If you plan to go see fireworks, do your dog a favor and leave him at home! If fireworks can be heard near your home, keep him indoors for the night and in a safe place like a crate or, if you are home, snuggle up with him on the couch.

The Homeward Bound crew wish you and yours a safe and happy Fourth of July!

Neel Veterinary Hospital

Providing loving care to Homeward Bound pugs since 2006

Greetings all,

Wow, we had a blast at the Rescue Day and Dog Wash! The weather was beautiful and everyone had a wonderful time! There was a nice tent for the pugs so they could stay out of the sun and we sold sno-cones so the humans could stay cool. The Homeward Bound booth was the most popular of all and the pugs loved all of the attention.

Gail sends her thanks to all of the dedicated volunteers who helped with the pug wrangling and those of you who came out to see us. It was wonderful to meet new friends and say hello to our supporters. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Fun in the Sun

It's summertime and the livin' is easy. Especially if you are a pug. Take a look at these fur kids and decide for yourself whether or not they are living the good life:

Darth Vader and his human brother Gabriel enjoying the sunshine.

Stephanie Scally's pug, Elvis and his brother (a pomeranian) Baxter enjoying the beach in Seaside Heights, NJ.

Cindy Burgess and Franklin at Lake Tenkiller. Franklin loves to jump off the back of the boat and float.

Holly West's fur kids: Mugs enjoys the pool, while Lucy spends her summer sitting in front of the fan!

Otis is on the left and BabyCakes is on the right (owners Harry and Penny Stiokas).  They are both rescue pugs from Buffalo Pug and Small Breed Rescue in Western NY.  Their favorite summer activity is relaxing/sleeping at Christie Lake in Canada on vacation!

The Dunagan Family's pug Rainey loves walks with her human sister, but they sure make her sleepy!

Bev Ferguson's pug Fergie taking it easy in their backyard in Dallas TX.

Monica Del Rosario's pugs Winston and Marley at Stanley Draper lake.

We received a ton of photos, so we will post more in the August issue. Thank you for sending them in!

*If you have a summer photo to share, it is not too late to send them in! Email your photo along with a description to homewardboundpugs@gmail.com

Pedigree Recall

Small pieces of blue PLASTIC went into the food during the production process.

I hesitated to even bother with this notice because surely none of you are feeding your pug this "doggie junk food", but if you know anyone who does feed their dog Pedigree, please let them know that there could be pieces of blue plastic in the canned food. This is a choking hazard and could cause intestinal damage.

Click here for more information on the varieties affected.
